NOT ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS ATM. Besides my Fine Arts degree, I am a qualified English teacher by The TEFL Academy (TQUK Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language). As your English teacher or Portuguese tutor, I can help you with conversation/listening practice, pronunciation and grammar (fluency and/or accuracy, depending on your goals). I will use all my knowledge and different teaching techniques to help you in our lessons, as well as my own experience as a language learner. Everyone has a different motivation to learn a language. I would like to know what is yours and focus our lessons on it. Basically I will adapt my skills to your needs and to your personality.

As a language learner myself (I'm learning Dutch at the moment), I realized that my skills can improve much faster when I talk to my teacher about my expectations. It helps me get the most of my lessons, and I encourage you to do the same. I have a program for learners of Portuguese as a second language (Survival Portuguese) and as a foreign language (General Portuguese). If you prefer not following any program, we can work on texts of your choice or focus purely on conversation.

During these years I could improve my knowledge by teaching many international students including children, teenagers, and adults from different age groups. Consequently, I use various techniques in my classes for each student as students have different background and needs. I have experience teaching international banking professionals, American, European and Japanese multinational executives as well as several professionals from the US and Australian diplomatic mission in Brazil.

Sou professora profissionalizada desde 2002, ensino desde 1995, após ter tirado a minha licenciatura em Linguas e Literaturas Modernas. Ensino Português e Inglês a todos os níveis. Adapto o ensino ao perfil específico do aluno, tendo em atenção os seus interesses e necessidades. Sou paciente e atenciosa e nunca me canso de explicar o mesmo, de maneiras diferentes, até o aluno compreender os conteúdos.

I was an Air Force linguist from 2005 to 2009. During my time at the DLI, I regularly tutored people. In 2010 I began teaching professionally in and around Chicago. In 2012 I became interested in the concepts of fractal geometry and began to relate it to language learning. Over the years, my students have included the FBI, Navy, hospitality, medical, and manufacturing companies.

Sou professora de português língua estrangeira/ língua segunda desde 2007. O meu percurso profissional começou em Goa, na Índia, onde lecionei durante 4 anos. Depois, voltei a Portugal onde tirei o mestrado em Ensino de Português Língua Estrangeira. Daqui fui para a China, Trinidad e Tobago e Goa, onde ensinei em universidades. Although I have been working mostly as private tutor, I also have some experience teaching groups. Moreover, I´ve helped immigrants to learn Portuguese as a volunteer teacher. Eu sou professor de literatura, poesia e escrita em universidades cursinho. Atualmente, finalizo meu mestrado em Literatura Comparada, onde abordo dois dos grandes autores da língua: Camões e Drummond. Também, possuo especialização em Docência do Nível Superior e sou formado em Humanidades. Porém, aqui, o que desejo é oferecer todas as ferramentas e conforto para que possamos conversar e desenvolver sua confiança e fluência.

English I have been teaching and learning from my students for the past 10 years. I started off as an all-around private tutor for teenagers preparing for the Brazilian version of the SAT and moved on to the classrooms with the same goal but to a bigger audience. From there I slowly got more and more interested in languages and combining teaching and my newly discovered passion for languages was a natural step. This way, five years ago I gave up Chemistry to pursue a career in language teaching and it has proven to be the best decision I have made so far for it has given me the opportunity to travel the world and discover more of myself and of the world.

I intend to keep my classes entertaining and practical since this is the way to learn the most as I’ve experienced myself. We'll work with interesting texts about a lot of topics and also practice through common conversations. Just studying grammar and doing text book exercises is not the focus of my classes. Minhas aulas são práticas e divertidas. Estou falando com meus alunos em alemão, inglês e português o máximo possível. Nos vamos usar textos e assuntos interessantes e também praticar a sua fala e melhorar a sua pronúncia na conversação. I have a degree in English and Translation Studies from UFRGS, in Brazil, and I have been teaching English and Portuguese for the past seven years, in both schools and to private students. My students have ages that go from little infants in their oralization process up to adults, with several different levels of language knowledge and goals. I know the difficulty of learning a new language because I myself have learned Spanish and Catalan as I did my Art Studies in Barcelona. Years later, as I moved to Germany I studied German – one of the biggest challenges in my life. Through this experience I understood how both challenging and marvelous learning a language can be.
