I have been teaching on italki since 2012 and have taught over 3,000 lessons, to more than 200 students, with an average rating of 5.0. I started teaching English as a community volunteer in North Carolina, USA and have more than ten years experience as a professional English teacher and instructor in the UK, Japan and Spain, I have taught private lessons, and group classes in language schools, companies and on government funded programmes. I have degrees in Business Studies and Economics and two teaching qualifications. I speak English, Spanish, Afrikaans and Xhosa, and underwent training in received British pronunciation. I have been living in South Africa for the last few years, in the morning we often see a troop of baboons passing by. I like walking my dogs, keeping abreast of current affairs, exploring cultures, cuisines, landscapes and meeting people, hence my interest in sociology and teaching English xox.

I have a Bachelor's degree majoring in Linguistics and German and I'm also a CELTA (Cambridge English Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualified teacher. I started teaching English two and a half years ago while living abroad in France, while there I mainly taught adults and teenagers. I have been a Community Tutor here on Italki since November 2017 and have helped hundreds of students achieve their English language goals.

I first started teaching English to Colombian refugees that came to New Zealand in 2008. This was really the beginning of my love for languages and teaching English. I then began helping migrants coming to New Zealand, helping them to obtain fluency and confidence in English. As a teacher I excel because I help my students to feel confident and supported, and able to make mistakes without fear of judgement. I am patient with my students, and I always try to find their interests and encourage them to speak freely and uninhibited about topics they love.

I am patient and understanding and this is reflected in my teaching style. My students must feel comfortable and their confidence must be built up in order to become proficient speakers of English. My best quality as a teacher is the ability to recognise the individuals needs and plan my classes accordingly. Having previously taught people with no background in English whatsoever, to highly proficient speakers, my experience is notable! I adapt my lessons to the needs and interests of my learners while making my classes fun and engaging.

I’ve been teaching English for most of my years in Costa Rica since 2002 and enjoy it very much. I’ve taught in schools and private institutions but with children of my own, it works better for me to teach in my home. I love having classes with small groups or individuals because I feel I can give them better attention and therefore they learn much faster and much better.

My goal is to help you speak English with confidence by improving your fluency. All classes are tailored to your specific needs, time, and interest. I use the Communicative Approach which is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. Hence, classes focus primarily on conversational English. In this approach, the objective is to present a topic in context to the learner as natural as possible as this is a highly effective way to help the language acquisition process. However, a grammatical syllabus forms the foundation of all lessons I teach and builds a framework to help learners acquire the English language.

I have experience in teaching as I use to teach school kids around my locality. As a teacher am very friendly and encouraging and l teach in the student's best interest and cater to their personal needs. I have a stronghold in Hindi as it is my native language and can help with conversational Hindi along with grammar, pronunciation, and use to correct words. Other than this I have C2 level proficiency in English and Telugu. I encourage students to engage in regular conversations in the language they want to learn as it is the best way to learn a language. My whole life has been about learning languages. From a young age a grew up in a home speaking both English and Spanish. I taught myself Korean and Japanese at 13 years old! Later, in school I also studied Portuguese, French, and Italian! I have worked with various methods of language learning as a student and as a teacher. I do not believe students should be memorizing long lists of vocabulary or giving boring, repetitive and useless tasks because that has never worked for me. All of these experiences learning different languages, along with my education, has given me the chance to understand language in a very unique way and deliver effective classes that work for all students.

I want you to get the absolute best out of your lessons. I'm and energetic and passionate teacher, with a strong grasp of exactly what it takes to learn English. I have been teaching basic English and Mathematics to underprivileged kids in India. Being a daughter of two teachers, I have always had this inclination towards teaching all my life. Funny story, as a kid, when my parents used to have a Bring Your Children to Work Day, I would always end up in an empty classroom with chalk in my hand teaching nobody.

I really love getting to know my students and I use my 6 years of teaching experience to help achieve their language goals in a fun and interesting way. I've had over 3500 successful lessons completed online and in those I've helped many students pass exams such as IELTS or FCE/CAE. I've also coached business English and psychology to professionals of many backgrounds and I've witnessed many of my students gain huge confidence and improve their English use. I have taught at Greenwich College in Sydney for 5 years. I have taught General English pre intermediate, intermediate and upper intermediate and Cambridge. I also did speaking club, which was an optional 1 hr session for students to practise speaking. I’ve taught students privately of various levels. I absolutely love teaching as I’m passionate about helping people meet their goals and I love to learn about different cultures from all over the world. I’ve never actually wanted to become a teacher as my dad would try to push me into becoming one. But since I was a university student, I’ve tutored children and adults and over the years I noticed I actually enjoyed teaching. Now I love it!

As a teacher I am very relaxed so you would feel comfortable chatting to me and learning. The conversations that we would have will be fun but I do adapt to each persons need as a English Tutor.
