I would describe my teaching style as very interactive. I prefer to create a teaching environment that encourages critical thinking and elicits responses from my students rather than having them merely retain and repeat information. I make use of different websites and encourage my students to read to improve both vocabulary and fluency.

Initially with a new student I would start off with general conversation in order to gauge your specific needs. Once we have determined those needs, with both your own and my input in the discussions I will progress to more structured lesson plans. I am patient, helpful and friendly with a wicked sense of humour... I am not overly sensitive to criticism from students, which makes it a lot easier for students to be comfortable in indicating their personal requirements for learning from me – in fact I aim to learn as much from my students as they learn from me.

I worked at a multicultural language school and taught many different nationalities from a beginners level up until advanced and have experience in teaching both group and private classes. In addition to this I've taught private classes in various subjects like mathematics, science, biology and languages to secondary school students for the past three years. I am fascinated with learning on a neurological level and always try to take into account different learning styles when I teach, trying to deconstruct a problem when a student is stuck in his/her learning curve.

I understand that every student is different and that each student has different goals and capabilities. I aim to use each lesson as an opportunity to help you improve your language skills, but still personalize the lesson to your capabilities. I am also currently studying English literature at university. I am also very adaptable to your specific language needs and enjoy designing lessons for individuals of all capabilities. I appreciate a good sense of humour, but understand that you are mainly here to learn, so I try to find a balance in my classes between fun and focus.

I am bilingual in English and Afrikaans. I believe speaking and practicing a language is a fundamental step in learning a new language. My teaching approach is very practical. Through conversation, you will practice English/Afrikaans by listening, learning new words, speaking, making mistakes and having fun. There will be absolutely no pressure during our lessons. The learning environment will be friendly, relaxed and comfortable for you to learn and progress at your own pace. I have studied Drama for 8 years now and therefore I am very good at communicating with people. I feel that it has equipped me with the abilities to be a good teacher. I have learnt how to communicate, entertain, and understand people by studying Drama. I also did a few English modules in university and so I have an excellent understanding of the language. I grew up in an Afrikaans household therefore I am fluent in Afrikaans as well. Whilst studying English and Drama I also learnt a lot about human psychology and philosophy which enables me to have a good understanding of the people I work with or teach.

I will help you learn English by using a different subject you are passionate about; if for example you enjoy cooking, our lessons will focus on restaurants, recipes and food. You will learn faster by using a topic you are already interested in. I’ve taught TESOL in Taiwan for 9 years to students of all ages. I love to learn and share the knowledge I’ve acquired with my students.

I love to work with people and have been a music teacher for many years. I have also taught English classes to students of various ages. I am bilingual and understand the challenges of learning a new language as I am also schooled in German.
