¡Hola! Bonjour! Hello! My name is Jacques I grew up in a multi-lingual household and I have a passion for languages and cultures. In university, I majored in anthropology and linguistics before later completing my master’s degree in education. In my personal life, I have traveled through some one hundred countries and territories, and I have lived in France, the USA, Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, and Malta. As a teacher, I empathize a lot with my students! Living and traveling abroad has regularly challenged me to improve my language skills; currently, I am focusing on improving my Arabic, Hindi, Italian, German, and Portuguese. I guess you could say that I’m a bit of a language nerd!

I have been a modern foreign language teacher (French, Spanish, and English) for nearly two decades. I started my teaching career as a business language instructor in the oil and gas industry before moving to teach in international schools in 2004. Since then, I have worked with children aged 3-18 (i.e., pre-school through high school). I am state certified to teach French, Spanish, and English to students of all ages, and as part of that process, I have passed state, national, and international background checks. For over a decade now, I have also worked as a trainer for modern foreign language teachers and to date, I have trained over a thousand teachers in more than sixty countries.

As your teacher, I will focus on three main skill areas with you: productive skills, receptive skills, and — perhaps most importantly — interactive skills. For those who prefer help with grammar or accent reduction, I specialize in those areas as well. Above all, I will create an environment that is safe and comfortable for you and your level of language learning. Everything will be personalized and adapted to your needs. For structured lessons, I will provide you with learning material so that you can continue your practice and extension work outside of class. For grammar workshops, I will go through a targeted lesson that will demystify concepts and build on your native language base(s).
