I am a patient but energetic teacher. I only correct my students when necessary, prioritizing student talk time and letting conversations flow. Instead of focusing on explaining the rules of the English language, I prefer to repeat the erroneous sentences that my students say in class in the right manner, making it a point to have them repeat it in the same way. The same goes for pronunciation errors. Repetition is key.

I have 3+ years of teaching and tutoring experience in numerous fields like Psychology, Social Work, and Criminology that is all conducted in English. I teach the Shona and English languages from beginner to advanced levels, and I am good at teaching all age ranges, from 10 to 50+ years old! I think of myself more as an English coach. There is so much more involved in learning English than rules and book knowledge. I have my teaching degree from Norway and worked as a teacher in Norway after I graduated from college. I also worked several years in the USA as a teacher teaching grades 1-3. Since 2012 I have worked as a Norwegian teacher at Madison College in Madison Wisconsin. I also teach Norwegian for the US Air Force online and do Norwegian tutoring in person and online.

Teaching has been a long term passion of mine. I have a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, a recognised teaching qualification for post-16 learners in the UK. My career ambition is to teach higher education and conduct research in universities after completing my PhD. I have a wealth of experience in teaching and supporting students of a variety of ages. I did my BA in history and political science and I received 2 teaching certificates (Oxford Seminars TESL and Cambridge's CELTA). I first had experience teaching young children in Hong Kong when I was 20 years old. It was an amazing opportunity to learn and travel, though I wasn't quite ready to devote myself to teaching full time. I finished my degree at McMaster university and worked random jobs before becoming a certified teacher in Montreal. I taught in 2 language schools. I started teaching online because my partner and I decided to move to France for a couple of years. Since then I've been working with italki and I absolutely love it.

I'm friendly, flexible and very patient. I like discussing various topics such as music, films, food, technologies, traveling, culture, etc. I'm good at explaining grammar, so you can ask me any questions about that. I prefer not to push but to inspire, and individual approach is my main principle. I let the students study at their own pace, and I always try to find the best way to help them achieve their goals. I'm happy to see how my lessons help my students to travel, to communicate with their family members, to find work in another country, to get another citizenship, etc. I also hope I can help people from different countries understand each other better.
