I have been teaching spoken Latin & Greek at iTalki for almost two years now, and have taught Latin at a number of institutions in the past.

Until he start of the COVID 19 crisis, I was teaching both online and in a language institute in Mexico where we take our students from beginner level to proficiency. But since the start of the crisis, I have been teaching online fulltime. I´ve always loved meeting people and talking to people so when I stopped travelling and settled down here in Mexico, working as teacher was a logical step. I really enjoy seeing my students develop and improve. I´ve taught people between the ages of 14 and 70. My students tell me they like my classes because I am patient, have a sense of humor and because I make them feel comfortable in speaking the language that we are learning.

My own eagerness to learn makes for me to be a versatile teacher who pays attention to the specific interests of my students. I show interest in their goals and needs. We will use various sources, depending on those. I get into details, yet I am patient for my students to arrive there.

My lessons are interactive using textbooks,games and videos with a focus on speaking, understanding, writing and of course grammar I taught students from many origins who all had their own reasons in learning with me. After giving private lessons in Dutch I decided to teach English as well. There are a lot of people in Barcelona who want to improve their English. I did a TEFL course which I finished successfully. I started to give directly my private lessons after the course. During the course I taught a lot in front of groups. Groups between 6 till 12 students. For me it is important that my students are satisfied. I will adjust every lesson to every student. I discover weaknesses from students to focus on during the lessons. The students need to enjoy my lessons and have the feeling they learn a lot as well. I'm a patient, friendly teacher and I like to help other people a lot.

I am a professional Dutch and English teacher. I hold a TEFL and TOEIC certification. I have taught Dutch and ESL to children as well as to adults. I can help with the preparation of exams and job-interviews.

I have several years of experience teaching students from the ages 14-18, right up to retirees! I started teaching as part of my university degree, which resulted in me becoming a qualified English teacher in the Netherlands. I am able to use the aspects of my upbringing to my advantage when it comes to teaching English: I am able to understand what it takes to learn English as a foreign language, while also being able to share the subtleties of the language as a native speaker. I’ve taught business English, prepared students for trips abroad and I have experience preparing students for Cambridge exams. Whatever your goals, I’m sure we can work together to achieve them.

Together with my wife we regularly do voluntary teaching work at schools in Surinam (South America) where they also speak Dutch. In that form I am used to both teaching groups as individuals. I have got a bachelor degree in Economics and Law and have 13 years of experience at a legal department of a public organization of chartered accountants. By practice I´ve learned to say difficult things in a simple manner, easy to understand. For some time I also worked as a recruiter, so I can also help you out with application forms and prepare you for a job interview.

I try to make my online lessons as cosy as possible. I use the video-conference system, so I can see my students and they can see me; we can talk, we make the exercises together, I explain all the grammar, and if my students have any doubt or questions, I explain it orally which I think makes it easier to be understood. Besides the I also speak English, French, Norwegian and Finnish. And I understand Swedish and German. Teaching and learning language is my hobby and I am learning Greek myself. I started teaching in 2009, when I began tutoring Dutch teenagers who needed some help with their Dutch, English, German or French lessons. In 2017, I decided it was time to broaden my horizons and start working for Italki as a community tutor. Now that I've acquired my TEFL Certificate as well as a Master's Degree in Child and Education Studies, I feel ready to offer you even better services! Aside from teaching on Italki, I also have experience as a classroom teacher at an international school. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating, so I will do my best to make sure my classes are fun and engaging!

During my lessons, I prefer to use online resources, such as short articles and videos, but if you have suggestions for other materials you would like to use, we can use those as well. During the first lesson I would like to find out what you are interested in and what your expectations are, so that I can personalize my lessons according to your own needs. I find it very important to create an environment in which you feel comfortable and encouraged to ask anything you would like to know more about. I'm a very Helpfull teacher. Learning a new language with me means that we will cover the basic grammar and vocabulary that we need, but quickly switch to have conversations in Dutch. We will go over why you want to learn the language, and set weekly and monthly goals to achieve it! Learning a new language can be a little difficult and dreadful, and that's why I love to combine learning Dutch, with subjects and things you like! We will talk about anything you want to learn about.

Als leraar ben ik open en flexibel. Ik luister graag en ben ook geïnteresseerd in jouw wensen en ideeën. Als je bijvoorbeeld wilt dat ik je fouten verbeter, dan doe ik dat, maar als je liever niet onderbroken wordt, laat ik je gewoon uitpraten! As a teacher I like to listen to you. I am open and flexible. If you prefer it, I can correct your mistakes immediately, but if you are rather not interrupted, I will just let you speak! I am also interested to hear your wishes, ideas, and tips.

When my children began going to school, I started looking for a job that gave me flexibility and put me in contact with people. Knowing various languages, teaching these seemded like a good solution. And I noticed that I was quite good at it and enjoyed it a lot. Wherever we were (USA, German, Italy, Solvakia), it was not too difficult to find students.

Here in China I found a lot of people, both kids and adults that wanted to speak or learn from foreigners. As such I slowly learned how to teach people. Now I feel confident to teach English as well as Dutch. Teaching is a lot of fun to me, seeing students grow from beginners into full native speakers is great. As such I want to teach more people here on Italki Hier in China zijn er veel mensen die Engels willen leren. Zij vroegen mij of ik hen kon helpen omdat ik een buitenlander was. Daarom ben ik gaan nadenken hoe ik hen zou kunnen helpen. Nu 7 jaar later ben ik er zeker van dat ik mensen kan helpen om een vreemde taal te leren. Ik hou ervan om leerlingen te zien groeien in een taal.

I do voluntary teaching work in Dutch and Spanish. My students or from different ages which helps me to be flexible and adaptive. For me teaching is very grateful work because I can see people making progress in their own way. It also taught me that everyone has a different way of learning. I'm a native dutch speaker. I can help you with your speech. Specially for a language as Dutch this is really important. Being confident in your speech will help you to actually talk in public places too and create bonds with the locals! ( even if you don't know all the words there's a great appreciation in someone who actually tries to speak a language). Other than that i can help you with vocabulary and grammar too. I would be more than happy to accommodate to your needs.
