About Me

Hello! My name is Shani and I’m living in Sri Lanka. I learn languages as a hobby and I teach the Sinhala language and English language. I am learning languages by myself with the help of native speakers online and using online materials and the language I learn the most is Chinese. I learn some other languages slowly in my free time because I’m really interested in exploring different cultures and languages. I used to be a Web developer but changed my career to online teaching and online content creating (mainly language-related content) because I wanted to do a job that I can enjoy, and I very much enjoy teaching.

Me as a Teacher

I have been teaching IT for more than 4 years and Sinhala as a foreign language for more than 2 years. I have been teaching English and IT as a volunteer for more than 5 years. In the future, I hope to be a professionally qualified English and Chinese teacher. Since I’m a language learner myself I can understand how people learn a language step by step and what works the best when learning languages and I always try to understand the learner mindset. I have finished several online courses related to teaching languages, and linguistics. And I constantly join teacher webinars for language teachers, so that I can provide a better service as a teacher.

My lessons & teaching style

My methods of teaching are friendly and relaxed and I want you to feel comfortable around me. If you want to study Sinhala long term, step by step, you can select the structured course, otherwise, we can do unstructured lessons to practice the language and improve your spoken skills. If you want to revise the lesson more, we will do more practice in the class. The time doesn't matter. I use activities and quizzes to make the lessons more interesting and to give you a chance to revise more. I give assignments as homework, If you're not interested in them, you're free to skip them. You will have access to all the finished lessons, extra notes, and quizzes after the lesson.
