About Me

Bonjour bonjour ! My name is Yvana, I come from the island nation of Mauritius. I graduated from the Lycée des Mascareignes, a French school. I am a French and English native speaker. I grew up speaking both English and French in my household since my father spoke only English at the time and my mother spoke only French to me. Growing up I always found myself to be the mediator between two families: one that spoke French and the other that spoke English. I am used to teaching languages as I have done it since a very young age. I am currently studying to pass a medical entrance exam but medicine isn’t my only passion in life. I play several instruments, sing, write and learn languages.

Me as a Teacher

My policy: I respect your time, I expect you to respect mine. I accept rescheduling and the cancelling of lessons 2 hours before the class. I will not reschedule a class you missed, though in case of emergencies, I obviously will understand. Things happen. I have been tutoring for two years, though this is my first year on Italki. Teaching French was never on my agenda, at least not as a part time job. I have always wanted to be a doctor, and though I am studying to become one, I have some spare time where I can teach people French. My love for languages has made it so that teaching French is more fun than work. I also believe learning French should come with a positive attitude.

My lessons & teaching style

I wouldn’t say I’m the typical teacher, then again, I don’t think most people on italki are typical teachers. I do informal lessons, nothing too strict. I suppose my demeanour depends on your choice of package. During conversational lessons, I am focused on what you say, who you are and what you want. I normally correct minor speech issues after you finished your thought but do not expect me to correct every single error, as this can be frustrating for you and disturbs the flow of the conversation. I always keep track the cracks in my students French, if you desire, I will send you the summary of our lesson with corrections.
