About Me

Hello! My name is Laura Bozarth, and I’m really excited to teach English on italki! First of all, I am a professional teacher. I have a Masters of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second / Other Language (MATESOL), and I have been teaching on and off for more than 25 years, in colleges all over the US and abroad. I have lived and traveled abroad extensively, including a two-year teaching experience in Japan and a couple of years in Italy. I’m excited to be moving my teaching practice online! I live in beautiful Montpelier, Vermont with my husband, our three teenage boys, and our dog. My hobbies are yoga, pottery, gardening, hiking, skiing, and mountain biking.

Me as a Teacher

I love to learn languages, and I know how hard it is to be a language learner. I always try to make my classes fun and engaging, but I am also a serious teacher, and I want my students to progress and learn. My lessons can help you feel more confident and successful, whether you need English for work, travel or friendships. In addition to tutoring sessions, I offer students independent study aids like personalized online vocabulary tools and useful online resources in English. I coach your progress towards greater confidence, fluency, and accuracy by providing a structure to practice the skills you especially need. I use free online resources, google docs, and my own materials.

My lessons & teaching style

I focus on teaching English through content. Content-based instruction (CBI) is one of the most effective ways to improve your language skills, and a great way to expand your knowledge of the world. I usually start each lesson with a review of vocabulary from the previous lessons, and then we discuss the homework assignment. You do most of the talking! At the end, I introduce the assignment for the next lesson. I find authentic texts, videos, and recordings about science, culture, current events, politics, etc. You study it before our lesson, and I support your learning by creating word lists and comprehension and discussion questions, which we review during the lesson.

I've already had 3-4 lesson with Laura. She is a very effective teacher! She provide interesting inputs and material to stimulate discussion and give me useful feedback to improve my vocabulary and pronunciation. I'm going to book further classes, and I surely recommend her as teacher!
