I have more than ten years of experience teaching Spanish both at university and at secondary level. I hold Qualified Teacher Status in modern foreign languages and I also have a MA with distinction in English studies. Teaching language has given me the privilege to inspire my students to look at the world with different eyes, and to be the facilitator of the invaluable skill that it is to learn a different language. During my career I have successfully influenced many people’s lives; some of my students have become language teachers themselves and others have relocated to Spanish speaking countries. I like to plan thoroughly for my lessons. First, I will assess your level in our initial session, then I will draw up a plan of action tailored to your own individual needs. The lessons will normally be centred around the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing or the language skills that you wish to improve on the most. We will also introduce new vocabulary and grammar according to your needs and interests. I also like to use authentic material and include cultural topics to spark your curiosity.Education

Postdoctoral - QTS Modern Foreign LanguagesThis is a graduate certificate that gives you access to the teaching profession in the UK. I completed mine at the same time as working in secondary school.
2003 - 2008
Master's - English studiesThis is a combination BA plus MA qualification where I studied language acquisition, teaching methodology, English linguistics and English literature. I achieved a first overall grade.

2010 - 2019
Spanish Language AssistantI taught Spanish from beginner to advanced level in up to 6 different modules: designing, preparing, and delivering lesson plans tailored to different ability ranges. I also participated and created the assessments. I enjoyed motivating students to learn and appreciate their university life, both through lessons and through personal tutorials and/or extracurricular activities i.e. the weekly Languages Cafe.

In a nutshell Irene is an excellent teacher. Patient and prepared she adapts classes to my level and requirements using a variety of materials and doing so in a relaxed environment. I feel like we're progressing towards my aims and I'd definitely recommend!
