About Me

I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, and after studying science and graduating from university, I lived in the UK for two years, and then Hong Kong, for 11 more. Spending so much time in other countries has really helped me understand the world, and life on a such deeper level. I really enjoying learning about other cultures and lifestyles, and I LOVE teaching people to tell me about themselves, and their lives, in MY mother tongue :-P

Me as a Teacher

I have been teaching English in Asia, mostly Hong Kong, for over 12 years. I've taught all skill levels, and all ages from 4 years up, for a variety of purposes - General, Business, Exam preparation (IELTS, etc.), often in experiential (relevant, real-world) settings to enhance effectiveness of a holistic language teaching method. Not only have I taught hundreds (if not thousands) of students, I've also managed/worked with/trained other English teachers, so I have a wide-range of techniques for teaching, and understanding student difficulties.

My lessons & teaching style

Because I'm curious about many things, I like to ask a lot of questions. That's not just out of interest, but it also helps motivate students to express themselves better, and it keeps them talking (instead of me ;-) I think people try harder when they are talking about things that matter to them. I have a wide range of materials and lessons that can be accessed online, covering the development of all four English skills, with plenty of focused lessons to help correct specific grammar issues. As mentioned in my video, I also teach focused courses for IELTS, and TOEFL exam preparation, as well as Business English.
