About Me

I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I currently live in the Tuscany region of Italy. I am a native Portuguese speaker and I hold a Languages degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). I am fluent in Italian as well. I have two Italo-Brazilian children and in order to the teach them Portuguese I have taken a few different courses to deepen my understanding of Portuguese as a Heritage Language. Some of these courses covered subjects such as Heritage Language Teaching Techniques, Bilingual Teaching, Bilingual Literacy and Portuguese Language Spelling Rules.

Me as a Teacher

I worked for several years teaching Portuguese to a wide range of grades in private schools and in the public system with Secretaria Municipal da Educação (SME) in Rio de Janeiro. I also ministered private tutoring of Portuguese, Writing and Literature to children, young adults and adults ranging from preschool to high school. On top of that I received full scholarship for three years to work in the research of Morphosyntax. My research analyzed theoretical aspects of Functional Grammar and Sociolinguistics and worked with the "continuum" of gramaticalization and lexicalization in some verbal forms.

My lessons & teaching style

Our classes will often use texts, songs, lyrics and audio visual tools that are age appropriate and will ensure progressive learning. In our first class we'll run a diagnostics so I can get to know the student and find out more on wher and how we can get started. I will plan personalized classes which will take into consideration the students prior knowledge as well as their necessities and learning goals. In conclusion, if you want to learn to speak and write well in Portuguese, if you're interested in arts and Brazilian culture, I am here to help and support your learning and interests.
