About Me

Hi, I'm Barbara, I've been a Portuguese teacher in Brazil for 8 years. My trajectory with the studies of the Portuguese language started in 2009 and, since then, my love for studies and work with the Portuguese language have been part of my life story. I am Brazilian, from the city of Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais. When I visit my city, in my spare time, I love meeting with my friends to drink coconut water, go to the theater and meet with my family for Sunday lunch with typical Brazilian dishes: feijoada, rice, kale and fried plantains. Right now, I am living in Lisbon, Portugal and here I work as a teacher of Portuguese as a second language.

Me as a Teacher

My classes are prepared with great care. My classes are a union of everything I believe in as a teacher, researcher and language learner. In classes we will read and interpret texts, listen, study grammar elements, learn new vocabularies and practice conversation. Classes are prepared with real materials, authentic texts from Portuguese. To study the real language. In addition, our arrangement for classes is to try to use the Portuguese language during class. Each student can take a placement test, created by me, to let us know, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the level of knowledge that the student has in the Portuguese language.

My lessons & teaching style

My classes are a union of everything I believe in as a teacher, researcher and language learner. In classes we will read and interpret, listen, study the grammar elements, learn new vocabularies and practice conversation. My goal is to teach with different materials, such as videos on YouTube, podcast, newspaper news, literature, comics, music, short films, conversation. There are many legal materials to study the real Portuguese. Our agreement for classes is to try to use only the Portuguese language! For each student I provide a diagnostic test, created by me, to assess the level of knowledge the student has of the language following the classification for the levels of the QECR.
