About Me
italki teacher since Aug 13, 2018
Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile! Here's a quick personal introduction: my favorite topics to discuss include food, dance, music, fine arts, fashion, technology, philosophy, literature, and everyday musings. My hobbies include cooking, dancing, drawing, painting, designing, and making fun things. I love going for long walks! I have lived in many places, such as Seoul, Korea, Asuncion, Paraguay, the Washington, DC area, Charlottesville, VA, Kitakyushu, Japan, Brooklyn, NY, Honolulu, HI, El Paso, TX, and Los Angeles, CA. My travels have taken me to many places far and wide, with some very interesting adventures. I'd love to share more during our classes, and hear about your adventures!
Me as a Teacher
I have been teaching ESL for a total of over 30 years, and have been a certified ESL teacher for over 24 years. My passion for teaching comes from my own love of learning languages. I currently speak five languages, and am looking forward to learning more! My firsthand understanding of the challenges one faces when learning a new language gives me a rare insight into how to address students' needs. One of my specialties is bringing students out of their shells, helping them overcome shyness or fear around making mistakes. Seeing my students smile and have fun while learning is my greatest source of joy when teaching. Having fun truly is the best way to learn!
My lessons & teaching style
Please note: I DO NOT ACCEPT LESSON REQUESTS WITHOUT SKYPE ID. I DO NOT USE ITALKI CLASSROOM. I ACCEPT LESSON REQUESTS ONLY FROM STUDENTS AGED 15 AND UP. Each lesson is customized, because students’ needs and goals can change over time. What I expect from students is their commitment to improve their English, and to keep an open mind and heart. I only use total immersion in my lessons. Trust me, it really works! I also use visual aids and links to helpful reference materials when needed. For instance, for students preparing for the USMLE, we use the USMLE Step 2 CS prep book. For students who prefer to discuss TV shows in class, we choose a specific episode/movie ahead of time. And so on.
