About Me
italki teacher since Jul 18, 2018
Ever since I first stepped foot in German class in the ninth grade, I have had a passion for learning languages, and learning how they work. This lead to me spending a year of high school in Germany on the CBYX scholarship from the US Congress, where I took my existing German skills and turned them into native like speaking abilities.
Languages are not the only things that interest me, however. I'm also passionate about computer science and programming, spending my spare time not learning about and teaching languages developing cool websites and applications. I also love to ride dirt bike. If any of these things interest you as well, bring them up with me! I'd love to have a chat with you.
Me as a Teacher
I do not use traditional language learning methods to learn languages or to teach them. They do not work well.
Instead, I focus on building up a fundamental foundation of vocabulary and basic grammar, and then immerse myself and students in content that is made for native speakers. This is how the native speakers learn their first language, and it is the best way to learn any foreign language.
Another thing that is majorly lacking in most classroom settings is actually speaking. This will not be a problem with me as this will be the main focus point of my lessons. I am a firm believer in the fact that you need to speak a language in order to learn it effectively.
My lessons & teaching style
With me, you will not just learn the language, but also about the culture. This is a very important part to learning any foreign language and as I have lived in both Germany and the US, I will be able to teach you everything you need or want to know.
We will also cover the ins and outs of the German/English grammar and will practice not only listening and reading, but also speaking and writing.
I believe that speaking is the most important aspect of learning a language. It reinforces vocabulary and grammar as well as strengthens the language as a whole in your brain. This will be the main focus of our lessons.

Nathan was a great help to me. He is fluent in German and can help to understand little grammar and lexical nuances. I would definitely recommend to take lessons from him!

The lesson was great. Nathan is good about seizing opportunities to provide vocabulary and grammar lessons within the conversation.

No words... he is very competent. He has a great German pronuntiation (I felt like among german people). He is young but very good at teaching. Especially, he is veeeeery patient. Thanks, Nathan, and see you the next time.
