About Me
italki teacher since Mar 5, 2018
I was born and raised in England, moved to the USA in 2013, and then to Denmark in 2015. I graduated in January 2021 (Global Nutrition & Health). Before this, I studied English at university for 2 years and have also learned 4 languages other than my native English so I understand how challenging (and rewarding) it can be. I have also worked as a freelance proofreader for foreign students and small businesses for several years.
I have always wanted to see the world and have traveled a bit already but there is still a lot more to see. I love to cook, bake and eat - I will take any chance to try new foods. I also enjoy running, tea, cats, terrible jokes, reading, and watching films.
Me as a Teacher
What helped me the most to learn a new language was to have conversations with a native speaker who knew that I was still learning. I found it really helpful be be corrected in an understanding, constructive way so that is what I try to do. Questions are appreciated and encouraged!
I also prefer flexibility to rigid structure as it can sometimes be more beneficial to follow tangents, so I have a simple lesson outline which changes depending on students needs.
*PLEASE NOTE*I do not tutor children aged 12 and under. I also have a regional accent, please see my introduction video to hear an example.
My lessons & teaching style
In terms of customisation, I am happy to cover any topic you need. The trial or first lesson will be for deciding on exactly what is needed and how to get there. If correction or discussion is needed, or if you have any questions during the lesson, we can break off to do that as we go along (but I won't interrupt). We can just chat, do role-plays, presentations, grammar, book reports, practice tests, poetry or parody songs, regional culture/colloquialisms, etc
Generally the lesson will go something like this:
1. Greetings.
2. Questions, especially important in the first lesson. Decisions about what to do.
3. Main lesson.
4. Summary.
5. Questions/feedback.
