About Me
italki teacher since May 21, 2018
Hi, my name is Beth. I am an American who grew up in a Russian speaking country, so I speak some Russian, but am not fluent. I am married and love to spend time with my husband, laughing while watching movies, going to the gym, or having deep discussions in the car. My go-to drink is black tea, with plenty of sugar, and my favorite snack would always have to be chocolate. My hobbies include writing, playing the piano and working out. I enjoy discussing politics, social issues, movies and books. Since I lived in Eastern Europe for a while, I had the opportunity to travel. My favorite destinations were England and Switzerland.
Me as a Teacher
I am a native English speaker, so I am able to help students improve their proficiency in this language. My education was thorough and gave me a good grasp of English grammar, so I can help my students improve their knowledge in this area. I have helped out at an English camp, where I helped teach beginner English, and weekly English clubs, where I focused on getting to know people and helped lead discussions in the intermediate level group. I have also helped people learn English through regularly spending time with them in conversation. Having studied Russian for many years, I understand the challenges involved in learning a language.
My lessons & teaching style
Conversation will be a main focus in my lessons so as to help my students improve their language ability. I will facilitate and encourage conversation by including outside material, such as news articles, stories, and videos so that my students will practice, reading, listening, and speaking in English. Making my lessons interesting and fun for my students is important to me, so I will try to bring in interesting topics to discuss. My lessons will be tailored to my student’s unique needs. I may sometimes assign homework, but it will only be what the student is able to handle. If my students are attentive, and engage in the material actively, real learning and improvement will take place.
