About Me
italki teacher since Sep 24, 2015
I'm a med student with a passion for languages and talking to people and what in Italian would be called "fare la maestrina" (to teach people... but in a slightly pretentious way :P ) I like to share what I have learnt during my standard education and during my years as a subtitle translator. Even if I didn't do it professionally, it gave me a lot of insight into the Italian language.
I have two cats and a Norwegian fiancé (but no, I was learning Norwegian before learning him, it's not because of him! ;) ). I come from up North in Italy and was raised with Italian and some German traditions.
I like to read, watch TV shows, do yoga, do creative stuff, talk to people... things!
Me as a Teacher
I'm afraid I'm not the typical teacher. I feel like I'm more of a friendly face correcting your errors and pushing you to practice and talk. I think a lot can be done alone with books but what makes talking to a native special is that one goes beyond the (often boring) book and is able to interact and have an exchange with the person.
I studied languages in school and for a year in university. I know Italian grammar well and I love grammar in general. I translated for years and got to realise how hard it can be to use the language but also how beautiful Italian is.
I do not teach children or complete beginners. I don't have the expertise and don't want to ruin the experience for them!
My lessons & teaching style
What I try to do is to be more of a person you can talk to than a professional figure (which, being a tutor, I' not) you can learn from.
I know there are people who don't like traditional teaching and don't like to feel the pressure of having to perform, do homework, do exercises, DO DO DO. I don't want people to feel pressured or afraid with me. I want people to learn in a stress-free environment and with a laugh if possible. I think many things can stick more if one has fun rather than have to follow a strict plan.
So I mostly talk to people, explain things, get to know them and try to make them feel as if their hard work is not only recognised but it is leading them somewhere.
