About Me

*Please note: I do not teach children on italki. I only teach adult students. My current classes are for conversation practice, not grammar. My name is Carla and I'm an English teacher from the USA. I have a bachelor's degree in a modern language, and a master’s in Elementary Education. I taught English as a Foreign Language to elementary students in Asia for over 7 years, in both a public school setting and at private English academies. My interests include reading, art, languages, and cinema. During my time abroad, I traveled to 14 countries. I hope to travel more in the future. Having studied Spanish and French for several years, I know how challenging it can be to learn a new language.

Me as a Teacher

As a teacher I am understanding and supportive. I'm a caring person and have a good sense of humor. You won't have to worry about making mistakes when you practice conversation with me. If you make a mistake, I can either correct you in the moment, or correct your mistakes at the end of the class. It's your choice.

My lessons & teaching style

The classes I'm teaching right now are for conversation practice. They do not include grammar or introducing lists of new vocabulary. We practice speaking. In our classes we can talk about the topics that interest you most. You can suggest a topic, or I'll give you a list of possible topics. We can talk about current events, books, hobbies, education, or culture, to name a few ideas. If you make a grammar or vocabulary mistake during the conversation, I'll correct you. I'll also let you know if you pronounce something wrong and tell you the correct pronunciation. (Please, do not book a class if you are looking for business English or test prep. I do not offer those topics right now. Thanks.)

I highly recommend having a lesson with Carla. I went through my job experience with Carla, and She gave me suggestions for how to say it better. Her questions are made me simulate different scenarios in real life. Her corrections help me improve not only pronunciation and made me think more detail of questions. I am looking forward to seeing her.
