About Me

LESSON PRICES UPDATE: Please note that from November 2019 I will be increasing my prices so that they are the same as the UK minimum wage. Hello! My name is Ellen. I'm originally from London but I now live in Norwich, in the east of England. I have experience of teaching on italki from when I was a university student and I really enjoyed it. I then taught English in Japan for two years, which was a fantastic and unforgettable experience. Now I have returned to university to re-train as an Occupational Therapist. I now have some free time alongside my studies to teach English again. My hobbies and interests are music, playing the piano and guitar, and drawing. I also enjoy yoga and boxing

I'm a friendly and patient teacher. I will encourage you to speak as much as you can, and give you gentle guidance along the way. It's ok to make mistakes - that's how we learn!

My lessons & teaching style

We can use any materials you like; textbooks and articles are popular, but we can also do some creative writing. I will ask you what you're interested in so we can include that in our lessons to make them meaningful to you. I like to focus on speaking as I think it's a really important part of improving language skills. If you want homework, I would be happy to give you some.

Work Experience

2014 - 2016

Assistant Language TeacherJet Programme - Aomori, JapanI taught English in three junior high schools in rural northern Japan. The students only had a very basic level of understanding of English so I learned how to teach using lots of effective body language, tone of voice, clarity of speaking and creative activities.
