Hello everybody. My name is Ivana. I am from Serbia. I know it might be "not so much attractive" to hear that someone is from Serbia or another Balkan country but the best thing about this is that I can teach you serbian, croatian, bosnian, montenegrian:-). I would say these languages are all the same with small regional differences and it is a kind of political issue that we all call it differently. I know that many people prefer native speakers, but it can sometimes be tricky. The native speakers are good teachers only if they are foreign langauge teachers, believe me. I also teach latin and italian so I think I could be a good choice for you:-)

I’m totally passionate about teaching my mother tongue as well as all aspects of my culture. I taught italian to foreigners as a volunteer in the past, and I enjoyed that experience so much, and I learned a lot from that. I started teaching Italian when I wanted to improve my German for work, so when I got paid I used the money to buy new German classes. I found this activity very interesting and fun. It was amazing how many people wanted to learn Italian and learn about Italian culture. Listening to my students improving day after day was really satisfying. I studied a lot of Italian during school, so I know very well what I'm trying to teach you. I know how difficult it can be to learn a new language, and to keep it ''alive”! That's something I'm doing too, so I can help you with all my knowledge.

I have a Master’s degree in foreign languages taken at the University of Catania. I have been teaching for about 8 years now. I started working at one of the local hospitals in town where I taught English and Spanish to medicine students and doctors. In 2015 I set up a school of languages which I run and where I still teach English and Italian today (along with other fellow teachers). I’m a qualified TEFL teacher, qualification that I got by joining a 120-hour TEFL course, held at school, given by an expert TEFL teacher, and I have got a Certificate of Proficiency in English (level C2). Moreover, I have worked for many companies based in my city.

You'll find that I am a very patient, supportive teacher. I enjoy helping you improve and gain confidence, and also finding ways to make the learning easy! We can talk about anything you’re comfortable with to gain experience!

My teaching experience is mostly related to Spanish and English tutoring to Italian middle and high school students, as well as Italian tutoring to South Korean university students living in Italy: in both cases, it's very rewarding and I tried to put my students at ease as much as possible - as I'd do with you! I usually don't give homework but I like suggesting activities you can do while reviewing for the next lesson - and I you need me to review them, don't hesitate to ask!

I have over six years' experience teaching languages to children, teenagers, and adults of different backgrounds and nationalities. Per me risulta fondamentale mettere a proprio agio lo studente, in modo che non si limiti per timore di fare errori, ma al contrario, si senta in uno spazio sicuro che permette la libera pratica e l'apprendimento. Dopotutto, se si ha sempre paura di sbagliare non ci si esercita mai! For me is fundamental to put the student at ease, so that he/she doesn't end up limiting him/herself for fear of making mistakes. The student has to feel him/herself in a safe space, that allows practice and learning. You'll never exercise the language if you're scared of making mistakes!

Mi piace essere una guida per i miei studenti nell'apprendimento della lingua italiana; sono molto empatica e solare. Sono molto preparata e sempre aggiornata sulla materia che insegno; mi piace sperimentare e creare lezioni sempre nuove per i miei studenti.

I started teaching in 2011 but continuously just since 2015. In the same year I earned the DITALS 2, a certificate of teaching Italian as a foreign language, and as I strongly believe in life long learning I studied a master only the following year. I taught in Italy and abroad to students coming from the 5 continents. I am patient, empathetic, flexible and supportive.
