I graduated from Cambridge University in 1989. I qualified as a CELTA teacher in 2004 and have worked with International House and the British Council. I have taught General English, Business English, Legal English and Cambridge/IELTS Exam classes.

I have been an English and Spanish teacher since 2007 and I have worked in several private and public institutions. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish teaching from Universidad Pedagogica Nacional and I am currently living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I work as an English teacher. I taught English to college students from 2008 to 2015, and I also taught English literature and directed a few language immersions at the universities I worked at. From 2015 to 2018, I lived in Washington DC and worked as a History/Spanish teacher at a bilingual multicultural school where I had the chance to teach students not only from the US but also from Central America, Africa and Asia.

I'm a qualified native English teacher and I've been teaching English as a second language for 8 years. I taught English in Spain for 3 years in a language academy to all levels and ages and then started teaching English online via Skype to adults from all over the world! Since teaching online I have helped hundreds of English learners take their English to the next level; giving them the confidence, motivation and the skills they need to improve. I love helping people achieve their goals in life...teaching English as a second language is my passion and I love what I do!

I love to travel. I have traveled to Germany, China, Hungary, Turkey, Ireland, Puerto Rice, and the eastern half of the USA so far. One of my favorite travel memories is playing soccer with Turkish children. I'm currently fixing a travel trailer so I can explore more of America and Canada. I have "grandma" hobbies such as reading, writing, baking, and knitting. I also have outdoorsy hobbies like hiking, kayaking, and volunteering on a horse farm. I'm a bit of a nerd, so I enjoy talking about things like Harry Potter. What things do we have in common? Let's talk about it! I show students a new thing in English every week. These things range from a good song to a comic I enjoy.

I love being an English teacher because helping others reach their language goals reminds me of my own journey learning Spanish! In the first lesson we will talk about the reason you are taking lessons and what you want to learn from the class. From there I can work out what we need to focus on and what you want to improve and achieve. I can provide home work and constructive feedback. Each lesson will be tailored specifically to your needs.

In my five years teaching English lessons online and in-person, I have worked with numerous students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds including Korean, Italian, French, Russian, Chinese, Dutch, Israeli, German, Turkish, Polish, Japanese. My students have ranged from young elementary-level English learners to PhD students, university professors to business professionals working in highly specialized fields. I hold a 168-hour TEFL Certificate, issued by The TEFL Academy, accredited by Qualifi, the DEAC (Distance Education Accrediting Commission) as well as a Certificate to Teach IELTS issued by Cambridge English Language Assessment of Cambridge University.

I love teaching and helping my students expand their knowledge! I am happy to teach people from ALL over the world! Most of my students are of an intermediate - advanced level, but this is not a requirement. I have previous experience working as a teaching assistant at a school in the UK. I have been conversing with English language learners at my school both as volunteer and as a part time job for about a year now. I feel like I would be able to help you with continuing the conversation, pronunciation(I know a bit about how the mouth should look when making a certain sound in English and the process of learning a foreign sound since I took a Linguistics class and I understand how to add sounds to your language arsenal ^.^), and fixing your grammar mistakes. I have taught French, English and Arabic to students from all over the world, mainly adults, at all levels, in groups as well as in private lessons. Those classes included the preparation to exams such as DELF & DALF & TEF & TCF. I draw on my experience both as a language teacher and as a language student to deliver the best quality teaching I can, using resources such as PDF files, articles, homework assignments etc. for me teaching means being there to give content and structure but also a supportive presence.
