My name is Jamie and I am a native English speaker from South Australia. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Languages and Intercultural Communication, where I specialised in Japanese Language studies and Linguistics. I am currently studying a Diploma of TESOL, and I have worked for my local council as an English Language teacher, supporting a group of about 15 adult beginners from numerous countries. Although I originally set out to become a Japanese teacher, my passion has since shifted, and I have discovered the joy of sharing my home language and culture with those who want to learn English. I hope to continue building my career around the teaching and learning of languages.

I have professional experience teaching languages in schools, as well as teaching lessons online and for my local council. I am trained specifically to teach languages, and I have experience teaching both English and Japanese to learners of varying ages and levels. I particularly like to teach English Literacy and Pronunciation, helping students to build their vocabulary and speak boldly and confidently. I like to have a goal for every lesson so that students can measure their success objectively and progress with confidence.

My teaching style varies greatly depending on the needs of the student, but it is my philosophy that languages are best learnt through authentic interaction and meaningful communication. I like to use real world resources and texts, particularly ones that are of interest to the student, so that students can make connections between language, self and context. I am academic, informative and professional, however I also like to keep things relaxed, lighthearted and enjoyable.

Jamie is my first online teacher and it was a really good experience having a lesson with him. He helped me better my pronunciation within the first half an hour! Plus, he’s very patient and nice.
