I'm a native dutch speaker. I can help you with your speech. Specially for a language as Dutch this is really important. Being confident in your speech will help you to actually talk in public places too and create bonds with the locals! ( even if you don't know all the words there's a great appreciation in someone who actually tries to speak a language). Other than that i can help you with vocabulary and grammar too. I have been teaching spoken Latin & Greek at iTalki for almost two years now, and have taught Latin at a number of institutions in the past.

I'm a very Helpfull teacher. Learning a new language with me means that we will cover the basic grammar and vocabulary that we need, but quickly switch to have conversations in Dutch. We will go over why you want to learn the language, and set weekly and monthly goals to achieve it! Learning a new language can be a little difficult and dreadful, and that's why I love to combine learning Dutch, with subjects and things you like! We will talk about anything you want to learn about.

My characteristics are Patient, Supportive, Precise, Humoristic, Interactive and Looking for a fun time. Not being a professional teacher, and not having a formal education in this, will make your learning experience more original. I am able to answer all of your questions relating to the language itself or the subject we will be handling. In that last regard I will be able to help you with business-related material (I've studied business for two years at a Dutch University, I have a Bachelors degree in Management and I've worked in some business-related positions), arts, science, technology, music, and more.

I have several years of experience teaching students from the ages 14-18, right up to retirees! I started teaching as part of my university degree, which resulted in me becoming a qualified English teacher in the Netherlands. I am able to use the aspects of my upbringing to my advantage when it comes to teaching English: I am able to understand what it takes to learn English as a foreign language, while also being able to share the subtleties of the language as a native speaker. I’ve taught business English, prepared students for trips abroad and I have experience preparing students for Cambridge exams. Whatever your goals, I’m sure we can work together to achieve them.

Professionally I am an expert on home automation and on that subject have given vocational training courses for almost 3 decades. I have done this in my mother tongue Dutch for most of the time, but have done so in French, English and German as well. Sharing knowledge with my audience is satisfactory for me. Since the pandemic, I have also given online webinars, where I speak to an invisible audience, with minimal feedback. The positive side is that we can use time effectively and continue to share knowledge. As teacher I help you in conversations to gain confidence in talking the Dutch language. Advising on synonyms, how to say differently, all in the right context.

I am open-minded to talk about any subject. What I like the most is exchanging with people from different culture, different languages and different origins. I have already given some face-to-face lessons of English, French and Dutch to some students of my country and helped them pass their exams.

I am very calm and patient with students and I do my best to help them the best way I can.

In beginner classes we will focus on learning new vocabulary, pronunciation, common verbs, dialogues, exercises, survival Dutch (public transport, eating out, directions, etc.) and basic conversation skills. For intermediate and advanced students we can focus on topical conversation and writing practice. Perfect to expand active vocabulary, improve accuracy and grammar! Although I have a technical background (Electrical Engineering / IT) I always had a desire to do more with languages and I have a talent for learning languages and teaching. During my IT career I also had to teach (the use of specific software etc.). At some point when it was time to find an other job, I made the change to become a full time language teacher. Since then I have been building up my experience at schools, in private lesson and very soon also through Skype.

During my lessons, I prefer to use online resources, such as short articles and videos, but if you have suggestions for other materials you would like to use, we can use those as well. During the first lesson I would like to find out what you are interested in and what your expectations are, so that I can personalize my lessons according to your own needs. I find it very important to create an environment in which you feel comfortable and encouraged to ask anything you would like to know more about. I studied science and technology at the Leeuwenborgh institute In the Netherlands and my job was training new employers to get ready for their job. In Thailand I started to teach at the local primary school of my village. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to get my TEFL certificate and did additional courses for natural learning, specially for kindergarten kids. I have experience teaching at kindergarten, primary school and secondary school as well as in business English.

From an early age, I came in contact with various cultures during travelling and having multicultural friends. There I noticed how I love to be in contact with others and how much energy I gained with this. Together with exploring each other potential is one of my favourite things to do. I like to work constructively and I believe that conversations in other languages flow naturally when your convo partner makes you feel at ease. Your learning process is central here! Therefore I don't blame you if you would only want one class if there is no connection between us. Our class would be like drinking coffee together ;).

I've tutored students and volunteered as a Dutch teacher for immigrants in my city, both in private and group settings. I attended a Dutch University and worked for a local news website, so I have a professional and academic level of Dutch. I believe my experience helps me listen well and find out what makes you tick. It's not always easy to know where you need improvement, so I try to keep an eye on this and discuss it regularly. I work well with German students, because my grasp of German often helps me locate the source of confusion and spot 'false friends' - words that sound very similar but mean different things!

When my children began going to school, I started looking for a job that gave me flexibility and put me in contact with people. Knowing various languages, teaching these seemded like a good solution. And I noticed that I was quite good at it and enjoyed it a lot. Wherever we were (USA, German, Italy, Solvakia), it was not too difficult to find students.

Until 2011 I have taught Dutch at a high school in the Netherlands. Beside the normal classes I set up vocabulary training, provided exam training and much more. In addition, I have trained students who wanted to become a Dutch language teacher for years. After my high school career I started teaching Dutch as a foreign language in Thailand. I can proudly say that the average exam results of my students were always above the national average. To this day, I enjoy teaching. The interaction with the students makes it even more interesting and I like to share my knowledge of Dutch with others. I think that at the moment my qualities as a teacher work best with adult students.
