I am a professional Dutch and English teacher. I hold a TEFL and TOEIC certification. I have taught Dutch and ESL to children as well as to adults. I can help with the preparation of exams and job-interviews.

I started teaching in 2009, when I began tutoring Dutch teenagers who needed some help with their Dutch, English, German or French lessons. In 2017, I decided it was time to broaden my horizons and start working for Italki as a community tutor. Now that I've acquired my TEFL Certificate as well as a Master's Degree in Child and Education Studies, I feel ready to offer you even better services! Aside from teaching on Italki, I also have experience as a classroom teacher at an international school. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating, so I will do my best to make sure my classes are fun and engaging!

After giving private lessons in Dutch I decided to teach English as well. There are a lot of people in Barcelona who want to improve their English. I did a TEFL course which I finished successfully. I started to give directly my private lessons after the course. During the course I taught a lot in front of groups. Groups between 6 till 12 students. For me it is important that my students are satisfied. I will adjust every lesson to every student. I discover weaknesses from students to focus on during the lessons. The students need to enjoy my lessons and have the feeling they learn a lot as well. I'm a patient, friendly teacher and I like to help other people a lot.

Here in China I found a lot of people, both kids and adults that wanted to speak or learn from foreigners. As such I slowly learned how to teach people. Now I feel confident to teach English as well as Dutch. Teaching is a lot of fun to me, seeing students grow from beginners into full native speakers is great. I started tutoring people in language and in math during my university days, and early on learned that patience is a big factor in making the student(s) learn comfortably. This comes from my experience at my secondary school where due to the high amount of cultural exchange and engagement you begin to understand that everyone has a different way of understanding things. It is also because of these experiences that I believe that the practical sessions are a little more important than the theory aspect of things. Hence I tend to put more focus on actual practicing of the speaking by having regular conversations so people are more adept to the everyday usage of the language.

I've been teaching for 25 years. It's something that I've always loved. My students seem to like my classes a lot. I'm dynamic and playful but I'm also dedicated to my students learning something that will provide them with the tools to make their lives better.

My lessons are interactive using textbooks,games and videos with a focus on speaking, understanding, writing and of course grammar I taught students from many origins who all had their own reasons in learning with me. I believe that I am very versatile when it comes to teaching languages. I am patient and flexible. I listen to the students needs. Also I think that I have an easy-going character, meaning that I can easily adapt to a certain way of teaching (everybody has another way of learning)

I offer a wide range of lessons based on specific themes, such as pronunciation, business conversation, exam preparation, greetings, family, the weather, food, culture and so on. What can you expect from me? A fun way of learning and practising a language by just having fun conversations, using documents, pictures that you can describe and asking random fun questions. In that way you'll see you already know more than you probably first expected! I love languages and helping.. And apparently I'm pretty good at explaining something! Growing up, I always had a fascination for other languages and people. In Holland you see a lot of different nationalities, so it wasn't hard to find people that spoke other languages. I quickly learnt English and later Japanese and Spanish! (I have 3 kids, I help them with their Dutch & English as well! So I do have XP with Children).

My passion to teach comes from wanting to help students reach their study goals as it is rewarding to see students improve in their learning and understanding. As I am learning a new language, I understand the importance of having a teacher who is adaptable in their teaching styles, someone who is calm and patient.

Until he start of the COVID 19 crisis, I was teaching both online and in a language institute in Mexico where we take our students from beginner level to proficiency. But since the start of the crisis, I have been teaching online fulltime. I´ve always loved meeting people and talking to people so when I stopped travelling and settled down here in Mexico, working as teacher was a logical step. I really enjoy seeing my students develop and improve. I´ve taught people between the ages of 14 and 70. My students tell me they like my classes because I am patient, have a sense of humor and because I make them feel comfortable in speaking the language that we are learning.

Together with my wife we regularly do voluntary teaching work at schools in Surinam (South America) where they also speak Dutch. In that form I am used to both teaching groups as individuals. I have got a bachelor degree in Economics and Law and have 13 years of experience at a legal department of a public organization of chartered accountants. By practice I´ve learned to say difficult things in a simple manner, easy to understand. For some time I also worked as a recruiter, so I can also help you out with application forms and prepare you for a job interview.

Als leraar ben ik open en flexibel. Ik luister graag en ben ook geïnteresseerd in jouw wensen en ideeën. Als je bijvoorbeeld wilt dat ik je fouten verbeter, dan doe ik dat, maar als je liever niet onderbroken wordt, laat ik je gewoon uitpraten! As a teacher I like to listen to you. I am open and flexible. If you prefer it, I can correct your mistakes immediately, but if you are rather not interrupted, I will just let you speak! I am also interested to hear your wishes, ideas, and tips.

I'm a professional native Dutch teacher. I teach French (up to intermediate) and Dutch (all levels). I have taught adults and specialised in written communication while studying journalism.

During my time working as a professional musician, I was a singing teacher / vocal coach as well and helped many of my pupils gain confidence and focusing on joy in addition to technique. I personally think most people can do many things if they put the right mind to it and obtain the right mindset. It takes away barriers which can make learning things seem easy and fun.

I've got years of experience on iTalki teaching online. I'm also an interpreter and work well with other languages. I've worked with children and adults, but these days I mostly work with adults. I have experience with Dutch immigration exams.
