I've now completed 100 Lessons with Alaa. It has been an excellent experience- we've also met on my recent visit to Istanbul. My language acquisition has jumped massively and I feel I can now have a heated discussion in Arabic...yay! I even find myself thinking in Arabic at times. Alaa is really well read on a wide range of topics and we have discussed topics from the ancient arabic texts and fables, all the way to modern culture, medicine, engineering, current affairs, news articles, environmental issues, etc. He is usually encouraging of me expressing an opinion, which I feel pushes me to be more expressive. Studying English and Turkish himself, it has been interesting at times to discuss how the different languages work and we often discuss how jokes work in the different languages. I would definitely recommend him, particularly if you've reached an intermediate level and you're not sure where to go from here.
