I am a certified TEFL English teacher with more than 5 years teaching experience. Iwas raised in Canada and got a Bachelor degree in Education and Linguistics. My greatest achievements were that she got a certificate in the Leaders of Learning from Harvard University America and also a certificate in Linguistics of Speech Science in Simon Fraser University. My hobbies are hiking and listening music. I am an optimistic and understanding teacher. I am targeting to beginner and intimidate level students.

I am a qualified TEFL teacher, and I speak fluent English (with a British accent) and Cantonese (with a Hong Kong accent). As a community tutor here at iTalki, you can expect my lessons to be more relaxed, less stressful and more enjoyable whilst still being able to help you with your language studies whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced learner. Although the TEFL qualification is specific to teaching English only, the majority of the theories and concepts that I have learnt can also be applied to teaching Cantonese so you can be reassured that each lesson will be well-prepared and suited to your level and your needs.

I am experienced in formal (classroom) teaching of the English language to Chinese students preparing for their university entrance exams, as well as one-on-one tutoring of Cantonese to students from the foreign business community in Hong Kong. In addition, I have a certificate from the Hong Kong Chinese University for a course on the teaching of Putonghua (Chinese Mandarin), which I successfully completed in the top fifth percentile of the class.

Since 2012, I have been giving language classes to all ages (from children to adults). These experiences allow me to understand the difficulties of my students and help them in a systematic way. From the beginning, I will try to evaluate my students' language level and customize a learning plan for my students. This learning plan will not only focus on speaking but also grammar, reading, listening, and vocabularies construction. It is because I believe that to be able to communicate and be understood by the other cannot only rely on speaking itself. I consider myself an encouraging, patient, understanding, and flexible teacher. Your learning needs are my greatest concern.

除了聽、說，不如都讀、寫吧！ 身邊有不少朋友熱愛泰國文化；他們都想學好泰文，進一步深入認識泰國。當他們興致勃勃，學好幾句泰語，覺得開始了解泰國後，一看見泰文字母，便敬而遠之，似是「 可遠觀而不可褻玩焉」。事實上，泰文真的有達44個字母、32個韻母、5個音調；但只要慢慢認、慢慢研究，當中其實有許多有趣的邏輯並規律。學識後，就能從泰國文字的結構本身了解更原本、原汁原味的泰國。 粵語也是tonal language，泰文是；英文是拼出來，泰文也是。再加上我們有普通話的拼音技巧補足，香港人學泰語根本就是贏在起跑線。所以，LET'S DO IT :)! Let's not just listen and speak Thai; Thai scripts are absolutely fun! While Thai scripts are somehow pictographic (which is the reason why it looks like crazy drawing), they are actually a combination of consonants, vowels and sound marks. Once we understand how the system works, we could start to "read" Thai in no time! Let's understand the real Thailand through its language and scripts together!

I have taught Japanese in schools and different companies for more than 17 years and taught more than thousand students in Hong Kong. My students are from all ages. With long experience of teaching, I can understand the difficulties of each students and provide the best way of learning. As an active learner of several languages, I can understand many of the challenges that my students face. My goal is to provide a teaching environment where my students feel they can express as freely as they want, and are not afraid to make mistakes. It is also my opinion that learning, like many things in life, is more about the process than the destination, so keeping students engaged and interested is what I aim for in every lesson. I believe that understanding the culture is essential to learning any language. That's why in my lessons, I will try to introduce my students to some cultural background, drawing from my own personal experiences wherever I can.

I have many friends from foreign countries when I was in Hong Kong. I really enjoy sharing my culture to them and occasionally I taught them basic Cantonese. However, my biggest Cantonese teaching experience is definitely turning my Mandarin-native mum to a fluent Cantonese speaker!
