My name is Irene, I am from Granada in Spain, but I live in Plymouth UK. Teaching and learning languages have always been at the core of what I do. In my opinion, languages are much more than going on holiday or a few stereotypes. They are a chance to recreate yourself as a new, more adaptable and aware self. It is also a chance to connect with people you would never have the chance to otherwise! Aside from teaching and learning languages I also like cooking, running and singing/playing the guitar. Here is a trick I have, whenever I learn languages, I learn a song in that language. I know songs in French, Italian, Irish and Scottish Gaelic!

I have more than ten years of experience teaching Spanish both at university and at secondary level. I hold Qualified Teacher Status in modern foreign languages and I also have a MA with distinction in English studies. Teaching language has given me the privilege to inspire my students to look at the world with different eyes, and to be the facilitator of the invaluable skill that it is to learn a different language. During my career I have successfully influenced many people’s lives; some of my students have become language teachers themselves and others have relocated to Spanish speaking countries.

I like to plan thoroughly for my lessons. First, I will assess your level in our initial session, then I will draw up a plan of action tailored to your own individual needs. The lessons will normally be centred around the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing or the language skills that you wish to improve on the most. We will also introduce new vocabulary and grammar according to your needs and interests. I also like to use authentic material and include cultural topics to spark your curiosity.

In a nutshell Irene is an excellent teacher. Patient and prepared she adapts classes to my level and requirements using a variety of materials and doing so in a relaxed environment. I feel like we're progressing towards my aims and I'd definitely recommend!
