Until 2011 I have taught Dutch at a high school in the Netherlands. Beside the normal classes I set up vocabulary training, provided exam training and much more. In addition, I have trained students who wanted to become a Dutch language teacher for years. After my high school career I started teaching Dutch as a foreign language in Thailand. I can proudly say that the average exam results of my students were always above the national average. To this day, I enjoy teaching. The interaction with the students makes it even more interesting and I like to share my knowledge of Dutch with others. I think that at the moment my qualities as a teacher work best with adult students.

My lessons are interactive using textbooks,games and videos with a focus on speaking, understanding, writing and of course grammar I taught students from many origins who all had their own reasons in learning with me. After giving private lessons in Dutch I decided to teach English as well. There are a lot of people in Barcelona who want to improve their English. I did a TEFL course which I finished successfully. I started to give directly my private lessons after the course. During the course I taught a lot in front of groups. Groups between 6 till 12 students. For me it is important that my students are satisfied. I will adjust every lesson to every student. I discover weaknesses from students to focus on during the lessons. The students need to enjoy my lessons and have the feeling they learn a lot as well. I'm a patient, friendly teacher and I like to help other people a lot.

I am a professional Dutch and English teacher. I hold a TEFL and TOEIC certification. I have taught Dutch and ESL to children as well as to adults. I can help with the preparation of exams and job-interviews.

I've tutored students and volunteered as a Dutch teacher for immigrants in my city, both in private and group settings. I attended a Dutch University and worked for a local news website, so I have a professional and academic level of Dutch. I believe my experience helps me listen well and find out what makes you tick. It's not always easy to know where you need improvement, so I try to keep an eye on this and discuss it regularly. I work well with German students, because my grasp of German often helps me locate the source of confusion and spot 'false friends' - words that sound very similar but mean different things!

During my lessons, I prefer to use online resources, such as short articles and videos, but if you have suggestions for other materials you would like to use, we can use those as well. During the first lesson I would like to find out what you are interested in and what your expectations are, so that I can personalize my lessons according to your own needs. I find it very important to create an environment in which you feel comfortable and encouraged to ask anything you would like to know more about. Als leraar ben ik open en flexibel. Ik luister graag en ben ook geïnteresseerd in jouw wensen en ideeën. Als je bijvoorbeeld wilt dat ik je fouten verbeter, dan doe ik dat, maar als je liever niet onderbroken wordt, laat ik je gewoon uitpraten! As a teacher I like to listen to you. I am open and flexible. If you prefer it, I can correct your mistakes immediately, but if you are rather not interrupted, I will just let you speak! I am also interested to hear your wishes, ideas, and tips.

I do voluntary teaching work in Dutch and Spanish. My students or from different ages which helps me to be flexible and adaptive. For me teaching is very grateful work because I can see people making progress in their own way. It also taught me that everyone has a different way of learning. I would love to help you discover yours and finding pleasure in learning Dutch.

Here in China I found a lot of people, both kids and adults that wanted to speak or learn from foreigners. As such I slowly learned how to teach people. Now I feel confident to teach English as well as Dutch. Teaching is a lot of fun to me, seeing students grow from beginners into full native speakers is great. As such I want to teach more people here on Italki Hier in China zijn er veel mensen die Engels willen leren. Zij vroegen mij of ik hen kon helpen omdat ik een buitenlander was. Daarom ben ik gaan nadenken hoe ik hen zou kunnen helpen. Nu 7 jaar later ben ik er zeker van dat ik mensen kan helpen om een vreemde taal te leren. Ik hou ervan om leerlingen te zien groeien in een taal.

What can you expect from me? A fun way of learning and practising a language by just having fun conversations, using documents, pictures that you can describe and asking random fun questions. In that way you'll see you already know more than you probably first expected! I love languages and helping.. And apparently I'm pretty good at explaining something! Growing up, I always had a fascination for other languages and people. In Holland you see a lot of different nationalities, so it wasn't hard to find people that spoke other languages. I quickly learnt English and later Japanese and Spanish! (I have 3 kids, I help them with their Dutch & English as well! So I do have XP with Children).

I've been teaching for 25 years. It's something that I've always loved. My students seem to like my classes a lot. I'm dynamic and playful but I'm also dedicated to my students learning something that will provide them with the tools to make their lives better.

Until he start of the COVID 19 crisis, I was teaching both online and in a language institute in Mexico where we take our students from beginner level to proficiency. But since the start of the crisis, I have been teaching online fulltime. I´ve always loved meeting people and talking to people so when I stopped travelling and settled down here in Mexico, working as teacher was a logical step. I really enjoy seeing my students develop and improve. I´ve taught people between the ages of 14 and 70. My students tell me they like my classes because I am patient, have a sense of humor and because I make them feel comfortable in speaking the language that we are learning.

I have several years of experience teaching students from the ages 14-18, right up to retirees! I started teaching as part of my university degree, which resulted in me becoming a qualified English teacher in the Netherlands. I am able to use the aspects of my upbringing to my advantage when it comes to teaching English: I am able to understand what it takes to learn English as a foreign language, while also being able to share the subtleties of the language as a native speaker. I’ve taught business English, prepared students for trips abroad and I have experience preparing students for Cambridge exams. Whatever your goals, I’m sure we can work together to achieve them.

My own eagerness to learn makes for me to be a versatile teacher who pays attention to the specific interests of my students. I show interest in their goals and needs. We will use various sources, depending on those. I get into details, yet I am patient for my students to arrive there.

I'm a native dutch speaker. I can help you with your speech. Specially for a language as Dutch this is really important. Being confident in your speech will help you to actually talk in public places too and create bonds with the locals! ( even if you don't know all the words there's a great appreciation in someone who actually tries to speak a language). Other than that i can help you with vocabulary and grammar too. In the past I have gained experience as a private tutor to people trying to learn Dutch.

I studied science and technology at the Leeuwenborgh institute In the Netherlands and my job was training new employers to get ready for their job. In Thailand I started to teach at the local primary school of my village. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to get my TEFL certificate and did additional courses for natural learning, specially for kindergarten kids. I have experience teaching at kindergarten, primary school and secondary school as well as in business English.

Together with my wife we regularly do voluntary teaching work at schools in Surinam (South America) where they also speak Dutch. In that form I am used to both teaching groups as individuals. I have got a bachelor degree in Economics and Law and have 13 years of experience at a legal department of a public organization of chartered accountants. By practice I´ve learned to say difficult things in a simple manner, easy to understand. For some time I also worked as a recruiter, so I can also help you out with application forms and prepare you for a job interview.

Building a strong foundation for the student to excel in their life journey is my goal. Motivating them and making sure they enjoy developing their language skills is my job. It may sound cheesy, but it’s true nonetheless; seeing the smile on the faces of students is my reward. I've taught English for the past two years in Singapore, China, Myanmar. My focus has always been phonemic awareness and vocabulary building. Hence I'll be able to help you best with pronunciation and literacy skills.
