italki-Lehrkraft seit 13. May 2021
My name is Fathiyya Refky. I am a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Egypt. I live in Cairo, Egypt and I work at a language center in Historical Cairo, a place where you can smell the breeze of Egyptian history and culture. I grew up in a village in the middle of the Nile Delta, but I moved to Cairo around five years ago.
Ich als Lehrkraft
Since my graduation in 2007, I have been working as an English-Arabic translator. However, in 2015, I had the opportunity to start an English teaching career. It was this opportunity that opened the doors for me to have a lot of teacher training and learn more about what a successful teacher should be like. I also got a scholarship to travel to the USA and teach Arabic to university students. Since then, I applied for a master's degree in teaching Arabic at the American University in Cairo, and I am now in my second semester. Teaching my native languages helps me gain in-depth knowledge and clear understanding of my culture, identity, and language.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I teach for life. So, I adopt a teaching methodology that is aimed to empower learners to communicate. The effectiveness of language learning is measured by how much language can be used for everyday, practical interaction; which is helpful for student motivation. My lessons are an organized, rich mix of various learning tools, including flashcards, authentic video, audio, and pictures, texts, etc... Instead of sticking to one teaching approach, I prefer a "planned eclectic" way of introducing language to learners.
It was AMAZING! Her explanations were extremely clear, and the grammar and vocabulary she shared with me were exactly the level I was hoping for. She wrote down all the new material in Arabic as we were speaking, so that I could concentrate on pronunciation rather than on taking notes, and I learned so much in just 45 minutes.
