I was born and raised in the United States. My mother always told me to think twice before deciding to become a teacher because it was hard work (she taught English too) but it didn't stop me from doing what I wanted. After graduating from university, I traveled for a long time and then found myself living in Turkey. I've been in Turkey since 2011 and I love travelling- but Turkey is my home now.
When I'm not teaching, I'm studying Turkish, reading, spending time outside, spending time with close friends and family, cooking, climbing, travelling, or planning my next adventure. People would describe me as genuine, kind, inquisitive, active, and offbeat.
Ich als Lehrkraft
I started teaching English to immigrants in the United States in 2003. I continued to teach off and on for awhile, then I become certified in 2011- and I've been giving private English lessons full-time ever since. I can say that I have plenty of experience (in total over 12 years; 9 years full-time) teaching ESL learners.
I'm a teacher who spends time on my students outside of lessons. I plan lessons, I write and send notes to my students after every lesson, I help students who need something small edited or proofread, and I spend time learning about the student's native language and finding quick solutions to the problems that they may face.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
In my lessons, I meet the student in the middle. After I assess them, I learn what they're looking for and what they need. I not only teach but I am also a coach, a guide, and a tutor. Lessons depend entirely on the student's needs. Typically, I include variety in my lessons. For example, if the student needs grammar lessons, I will teach through speaking, writing, giving lots of examples, and repeating a lot, and the lessons go by quickly because our activities change throughout the lesson. If the student needs to focus on speaking, I encourage the student to speak at least 75% of the time. It's important for me listen and let the student talk as much as possible.
Was a very nice experience, Joy was very supportive and encouraging! Also she provided many useful materials for further practise. Looking forward to the next lesson :)
