Choosing a teacher, the first thing I do is calculate the returning student ratio: Divide the total lessons by the number of students, then subtract 1 (as the 1st lesson isn’t a returning student). Pronunciation is my favorite “hack” — master it now, before learning thousands of words with bad pronunciation, and your path will be a lot easier. It’s not so much about accent, but we really need to prioritize pronunciation, because your pronunciation is the pronunciation you expect to hear, so if your pronunciation is off, your listening will be 10x more difficult. Fix your pronunciation now, and you’ll be a lot happier!

I have a background in Translation and Philology at the University of Granada. I taught Spanish as a second language in the States for seven years and also in Spain up to present. I have 20 years of teaching experience (since 1998) and I started teaching online in 2017. While I was in the United States teaching Spanish I also studied a Master’s Degree in the Teaching of Foreign Language and Literatures, and a Ph D in Applied Linguistics in the Acquisition of Spanish as a Second Language. I have several papers published on the topic of the pedagogy of Spanish and I have been granted four Teaching Excellence Awards based on students' evaluations and performance.

Growing up with competent teachers and mentors, I've been exposed to high quality teaching and a great deal of teaching methods. I am currently working in an international Spanish school for foreigners, I’ve been working in this field for 5 years. The further I go the more I realize how difficult teaching a language is, but also, the further I go the more I like and I enjoy it. It’s very satisfying to me when the first days students arrive and they have no idea of Spanish and over time I can see how the students are progressing and developing writing, listening and communicative skills. This is the reason why I’ve been teaching Spanish all this time, basically because I’ve always felt vocation for this profession apart from my interest in languages and different cultures.

I discovered I wanted to be a full-time teacher when I moved to Poland and started to teach sporadically. After I came back to Spain I took a course on teaching skills and started to teach independently. And I loved it! The more I tough the more I liked it... and I still love it. I am a certified CELTA English teacher and Welsh for Adults tutor. I've worked as a freelance 1-1 Welsh tutor since 2015, teaching both face to face, online and in small groups. I currently work with Cymraeg i Oedolion (Welsh for Adults) in North West Wales and as a Language Development Officer with the Welsh Language Project in Patagonia, Argentina.

Both my parents were teachers so I guess teaching is in my blood. Whenever a student reaches a goal, speaks fluently or passes an exam, it makes me so happy and so proud of him/her.
