I began teaching in 2004 at a Waldorf school in southern England. I taught a variety of humanities, including German, English, and French. I have also worked in translations for many years, which has helped me to learn the subtleties of expression in the languages I use. I believe in learning naturally, without studying rules and structure (none of us do this with our first language, after all!). I have always enjoyed seeing progress in others, and facilitating this in an effortless way is something I find very rewarding. I have also taught theatre, as well as worked with disadvantaged young people, focusing on motivation, self-esteem and self-confidence.

Fortunately, in these last four years, I had the opportunity to give private lessons to children and teenagers of different ages and of different levels several times. I taught English, Spanish and German. I am often described as a very patient and organized person. What I like the most about teaching is to see the processes that the student goes through day after day, and above all how he/she gains confidence day by day. Since I had studied Philology I also have many bibliographic references, both in literary books and also in grammar. Another thing I like a lot is the reciprocal process of teaching and learning.

I have been a Teacher on italki for several years. Before that I studied languages at the University (English, Spanish, French). I have a certificate for teaching languages to adult learners, but my experience expands to helping younger students with their school subjects (History, Literature and foreign languages). I also helped students from all over the world (mostly doctors and software developers) with job applications in Germany. I have worked as a language teacher on almost all levels (except with toddlers and children). I have taught groups and individuals at university and school level as well as in business environments. Many of my current clients are from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Furthermore, I love languages and constantly try new methods for my own language learning to put me in the shoes of the learner.

Language lessons can be fun, but language-learning is certainly time-consuming and occasionally frustrating. I am therefore aiming at establishing collaborative relationships with my clients to keep them inspired and motivated throughout the journey. I have been a volunteer German tutor since 2017 and have worked with individuals aged 13 and above ranging from beginner to advanced language level. I am also happy to help with exam preparation, and provide guidance on specific tasks and proofread your work (texts, essays etc.) or help with improving your writing style, vocabulary and grammar.

As a teacher I am a huge disciple of learning while speaking and love to give examples of context and situation. A structural approach to learning a new language is key. Grammar and vocabularies are mandatory while often more easily learned by heart through stories and repeated use. It is most important to have a good time and to have fun while learning, as well as keeping my teaching goal oriented towards your needs. I will have to get to know your goals so that we can figure out an individual learning plan for you while I guide you through the different levels of competence.

As a teacher I aim to create a safe space for you, where you can be yourself and freely express your needs. The more you share your expectations with me, the more I'll be able to adapt myself and my teaching style to you. I'm patient, don't be ashamed to ask me to repeat and explain something, I'll do it as many times you need it. After all, your success is also mine, because it's a sign that I'm doing things right.

Ich begann mit dem Unterrichten von Hochdeutsch 2017 während eines Auslandssemesters. Als ich Italki entdeckte, spezialisierte ich mich auf Zürcherdeutsch und helfe seither Einwanderern bei ihrer Integration in der Schweiz. Das Level variiert dabei von Beginnern bis hinzu Fortgeschrittenen. Aus Mangel an guten Unterrichtsmaterialien habe ich im Verlauf der Jahre meinen eigenen Kurs mit einer Vielzahl verschiedener Übungstypen zusammengestellt. ich bin eine geduldige Lehrerin und lasse dem Schüler Zeit in aller Ruhe die Sätze zu konstruieren. Das grösste Problem ist, finde ich, dass Leute sich unter Druck gefühlt setzen eine Sprache in kurzer Zeit beherrschen zu müssen und schnell in selbiger Sprache antworten zu müssen. Wenn man sich weniger unter Druck gesetzt fühlt, kann man sich auch besser ausdrücken.

Seit Jahren bin ich als Lehrkraft im Bereich Kunst aktiv und leite eine Private Kunstakademie. Ich gebe seit meinem Studienabschluss (Meisterschülerin) als Malerin entsprechenden Unterricht und war auch Dozentin an einer Kunsthochschule in Norddeutschland.
