My teaching experience is based on teaching both adults and children Modern Greek and my engagement with the field of psychology have made more capable of understanding people's needs and more patient. I love working with people and the fact that I am teaching them a beautiful language makes me happier and more eager to work!

My name is Sophia and I'm a Greek native speaker living in Athens. I have a BA in European and Greek Civilization of the Hellenic Open Greek University of Patras. Besides modern Greek I teach and Ancient, reading, grammar and syntax. In my first degree I also took Greek Literature, Ancient History and language. I have been teaching for 20 years and English in Language Schools in my country and lived for four years in Pretoria, South Africa, an English speaking country.

In the last few years I had the chance to to teach the Greek language to non Greeks or to those of a Greek decent. As a result of trying to learn German, I know very well how hard it can be learning a new language. Therefore I am patient and I speak slowly for my students to understand me. I am able to teach in English or in German.

Teaching has never been on my list of jobs to do. I would find it exhausting and tedious, especially when kids were involved. Never have I been so wrong! In fact, teaching has projected the best in me. Being a patient and sociable individual by nature, I have found myself willing and able to create a friendly, yet professional atmosphere in my classes. It is very important to immerse yourself in the language you’re learning and get used to the way that natives speak. I had several friends that wanted to learn Greek too and knowing the struggles of learning a new language I was able to help them in their journey. Recently I started teaching myself Japanese and now I understand how difficult it is to read and write in a whole different script. I'm a very patient and friendly person so don't be shy. We can either have a friendly conversation about a topic you want to get familiar with, learn and practise a group of basic words and expressions for daily conversation or read Greek articles and listen to Greek songs.

I have enough experience to help you get into the ancient Greek culture and to help you learn the Greek language, which for some people is a bit complicated. I have taught students from several educational levels (from 6 years old to 19 years old). My English level is very good and there would be no obstacle to communicate in English.

As a teacher, I am very patient, supportive and oriented towards my students' progress. By introducing amusing materials and including various contents the lessons with me are fun but in the same time effective.

Our classes will be planned according to your interests and needs. Of course, we will always be working on grammar and vocabulary but in a way that is interesting to you. If you don't want to follow a book, we can work on songs, recipes, articles, etc, or we can do that in addition to the textbook. We will also talk about the greek culture because learning the culture is important if you want to learn the language in depth. But don't worry-greek culture is fun!

I have been teaching to high school students at a private school in Greece for 3 years and I'm currently teaching Greek online. I'm also certified in teaching English as a foreign language. I have been living abroad for the last 10 years so I know how challenging the process of a new language can be.

I am a positive person who has an enthusiastic outlook on life. I love my job and I get a great sense of achievement from seeing my students develop and grow as individuals. If I can have a positive impact on their future, I feel I am doing my job well. I am an effective communicator, both in writing and verbally and I have a strong ability to plan and organise effectively; something which is crucial to the role of a competent teacher. I cope very well with pressure and can adapt my style or teaching methods, when needed, to deliver consistent results.

I always like to create a friendly atmosphere in which we can both feel comfortable. I usually conduct my lessons in Greek as much as I can, so you get used to it, but I can also use English if you like. I have developed a very flexible method, which allow me to teach to students of any level and with different goals, preferences and needs.

I hold a BA on Greek Language and Literature and my MA is on Applied Linguistics, with a specialization on teaching Greek as a second/foreign language. I have been teaching Greek as a foreign language for over ten years, and English as a foreign language for the past two years. I have mainly taught 1-to-1 privately but have also taught children, small groups, and classes both here in England and in Hungary shortly after I acquired CELTA. I currently have no professional qualifications in teaching Greek but that will change very soon.
