Because my lessons are solely conversational, I HIGHLY recommend you only take my lessons if you're an intermediate/advanced learner. As an informal tutor, we will not spend much time on grammar, but if you do have specific questions you'd like to ask me, I can help you! I am a teacher of English and Maths and worked as a college teacher abroad in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. I think the most important quality as a teacher is the ability to encourage learners. Learning a language is not always easy and there are ups and downs. And it requires quite a bit of efforts and dedication. I've taught skills, grammar, and vocabulary lessons as well as specialized lessons like Business English, Travel English, English Literature and test preparation (IELTS, FCE, TOEFL). Outside of italki, I've taught beginner English speakers and tutoring intermediate English students. During my stay in Chile I helped teach students, ages 5-7, in the English as a Second Language program in my school as a volunteer. I also helped prepare young students, ages 10-18, for the First Certificate in English (FCE) after school.

I like to adapt my teaching style to the student. However, in general I prefer to maximise the student talking time, and to focus on fluency and relevant vocabulary. I encourage the student to develop their confidence and real-life exposure to the language, so they begin to think in English, and can finally express complex ideas in English without translating from their native language. While I am happy to explain grammar, I see grammar as merely one tool; provided the student has an A2 or higher grammatical level, fluency is arguably more important.

As a teacher I am: Patient - I am always happy to have the same conversation again and again until it feels comfortable for you Creative - How many times can we talk about 'what you did today?' Let's learn new vocabulary! Let's pretend we're at a restaurant or at a job interview or mountain climbing! Organised - If we learn new words today, I will find a way to bring them into conversation tomorrow! I am always keeping notes on your progress. Encouraging - I will always push you! If you're comfortable using the word 'tired' let's try using 'exhausted' or maybe an expression like 'burnt-out' or even current slang like 'dead!' I see the ideal teaching session as a conversation. I make sure all my students know they are in an environment where they can practice their English and improve it without fear of being judged. I teach by example, and will spend the first session getting to know you so I know what makes you thrive as an English or German learner.

I can teach both English and Hindi and have tutored many students, family members, friends etc. Although English seems a bit tough and complicated at first, however, I believe that with proper guidance and regular learning one can learn it with ease.

I like teaching because I like helping others, and it is very satisfying to see a person's improvement when learning a language. It is also a job that allows me to travel and see the linguistic difficulties and concerns that each learner has towards a language. As I said, I spent two awesome years working in China (still thinking of going back some day!) and I am currently teaching Spanish in Poland. Learning a new language not only requires patience, but also the ability to keep oneself motivated and that's why I'll always encourage you to find new ways to relate to the language you're learning. That can simply be done by watching, for example a YouTube channel on a topic you like and sharing it in class. Searching for content in a different language can be tricky since most times you'll see yourself struggling to find the perfect balance between those that meet your language level and the topics you're interested in at the same time, so here's where I'll help the most.
