As a teacher with 20 years professional experience I continuously strive to build rapport with my students, creating a trusting atmosphere and paying constant attention to individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. As a teacher I’m guided by a line from Don Quijote, “Cada uno es hijo de sus obras.” (“We are all the children of our accomplishments.”) and an anthropological observation that “education is identity change.” Learning is more than the acquisition of new skills, it’s the emergence of a new identity. I first saw it in my dissertation research, and then I began to see it everywhere. Learning anything new, especially another language, means becoming someone new. These insights continually challenge me to offer relevant instructional opportunities that allow learners to experience themselves engaging in new practices that they can then convert into newer versions of themselves.

It is always a pleasure helping others learn French and to see them progress in their fluency. I consider that every student is different. I adapt and customize the lesson to your needs, personal expectations and current French language ability. We will be keeping track of your progress, using a shared document, where you can write or review between lessons.

My overall goal is to improve your confidence and abilities in your English speaking and listening skills. I am empathetic, charismatic, patient and an excellent listener. I am TEFL certified with over eight months experience tutoring English online. I am very flexible as a teacher. I have given lessons in which we have just had a conversation, which is always great, but I have also given many lessons in which I help students with high level academic writing, such as Masters university essays and business reports. How your lessons are structured is up to you! I have had some students studying for IELTS and have helped them to overcome some difficulties and their own nervousness, particularly with speaking and writing. I started teaching English to immigrants in the United States in 2003. I continued to teach off and on for awhile, then I become certified in 2011- and I've been giving private English lessons full-time ever since. I teach on SKYPE and I write corrections and suggestions as we speak. You will progress by speaking and with private study. English is everywhere! Notice it and use it! Listen to music. Watch films. Listen to podcasts. I prefer using real texts to language learning texts and I will use them when I can. As you speak I will write suggestions for improving your English. This will be your record of up to 90% of our conversation to re-read and remember. I teach adults and older teenagers who have a basic knowledge of English up to advanced. Teaching is a noble profession. So I took methods of teaching to invest enough skills. I’ve been doing this craft for a few years now to a variety level of students; I’ve come across people with different levels of communication skills. Some love the language and others don’t like it that much. But, one thing they have in common is their belief that speaking well would be beneficial for them.

I have lots of fun discussing and explaining German words, phrases and sentence structure. I have been supporting language learners on Italki since January 2019. In the past I have lived in many countries. Whenever I am back home in Germany I go back to driving an abulance. My students appreaciate my slow and clear speech. I am very patient - I dont mind repeating myself over and over again :) Repetition is essential. I encourage students to make mistakes as they catalyse the learning process.
