Hi, I am a native English speaker from the South East of England that is presently living in Mexico. I am learning Spanish, so I completely understand all the issues and challenges that mastering a second language entails. I have been teaching English here now for more than 5 years. More than 4 years on italki. TESOL qualified I have loved meeting and sharing life with so many students from all countries and cultures.

As previously stated I am learning Spanish and never dreamed it would be so challenging to learn a second language. I made many mistakes at first in my studies. But over time I discovered there is a wrong way and a right way to master a second language. I took a TESOL course here in Guadalajara and taught in a private school. So now I can call myself an experienced trained teacher, that is very patient and understanding.

My lessons depend on the abilities, needs and personality of the student. In the first lesson it is important that we discuss exactly this. To build up their confidence and ability to construct sentences. Correct grammar and pronunciation in a way that suits the student. Give exciting conversations and articles for our lessons. My job is to make a lesson fun with interesting conversation. To lead the lesson if required but encouraging the student to speak freely and as much as possible. A student should be talking the majority of the time and the teacher should be patient. Most teachers talk too much and interrupt students.

From ancient Sumeria to contemporary stuffs the lesson was wide-ranging and able to build more and more confidence in my English conversation skills. The teacher was , as usually (11 lessons !) very supportive and engaging. The time flew by in the most relaxing way!

Richard is able to keep a conversation go very smoothly. He can always come up with great questions and interesting topics. It is the student who speaks most of the lesson and Richard helps with phrases and words to express student's ideas. Today, we discussed a crisis in Venezuela (Richard sent me a great article about it with an excellent vocabulary) and then we talked about football in England and Slovakia. I really enjoyed it. Thank you Richard for the great conversation.
