I really love sharing my passion for languages and I enjoy the most seeing how my students progress in their language studies. I speak slowly - as much as it can be a drawback in life, it is an asset in teaching, because this helps the student processing the language easier, at their own pace. I have formal education in all of the languages, so I know and I can help with grammar if you need. My main goal, though, is to help you improve your speaking skills. Having learned multiple languages makes it possible for me to understand the struggles in language learning and to offer clear explanations and concrete tips about different aspects of the language or the learning process itself.

What is conversation? Conversation is many things. Chatting with a friend in a coffee shop is conversation, but so is giving your boss a project update. Giving an informal talk to a group of fellow students or a service club is conversation, but so is giving a formal presentation (even if you do not take questions afterwards). I believe that the most important thing about conversation is communicating clearly. The best way to improve your communication is practice and that's what I am here for.

In the last 5 years I have worked in remote areas of Australia both as a Renal Dialysis Nurse and as an English Tutor. I hold a Diploma in TESOL and used my expertise to tutor mature aged aboriginal women, assisting them in their studies. These women may have 1or 2 tribal languages and English may be their 3rd or 4th language. When home in Queensland, I host international students. My first student was a Chinese girl named Yoyo, undertaking her Masters, I assisted her with Conversational English, Australian idioms and slang. I have also hosted Punjabi and Indian students who are upgrading their nursing qualifications and assisted them with nursing terminology and conversational English.

Hence, classes focus primarily on conversational English. In this approach, the objective is to present a topic in context to the learner as natural as possible as this is a highly effective way to help the language acquisition process. However, a grammatical syllabus forms the foundation of all lessons I teach and builds a framework to help learners acquire the English language.

My career ambition is to teach higher education and conduct research in universities after completing my PhD. I have a wealth of experience in teaching and supporting students of a variety of ages. As a teacher, I try to personalise my lessons as much as possible so that you learn what you need to, not what I want to teach you. I am really familiar with IELTS, FCE, CAE, and CPE, for example, so we will start with a mock test, so I can find out your strengths and weaknesses, then work hard to build on your strengths and improve your weaknesses. This usually works very well with some successful strategies I have. For conversation or business lessons, we choose topics that are relevant to you, whether it is about problems you have speaking in meetings, or just talking fluently with good pronunciation. I can help you improve your English in many ways.

As a teacher I enjoy helping students/adults really learn more English! Whether it is breaking down the grammatical rules and basics of the language, or just having a fun conversation around a topic that the student enjoys. I believe practicing all aspects, especially conversation really helps with the learning process.

I graduated from Cambridge University in 1989. I qualified as a CELTA teacher in 2004 and have worked with International House and the British Council. I have taught General English, Business English, Legal English and Cambridge/IELTS Exam classes.
