I'm a native Japanese speaker who has lived outside of Japan for almost a decade. My full-time job is marketing in a tech company (no other Japanese around me!), and I teach Japanese online and offline at night and on weekends. I'm fluent in English, and I understand Spanish and Chinese. I spend my time teaching Japanese, studying Spanish (I hope I can teach Japanese in Spanish someday!), and practicing salsa dance. I've traveled a lot throughout Japan and many other countries. I love discussing various topics, such as; foods, history, festivals, trips, comics/anime/game, movies, music, business (especially marketing, sales, tech and HR), dating - the list goes on and on.

I love teaching in general. It's where my passion is! For 5 years, a part of my job back in Japan was to help non-Japanese students improve their Japanese fluency and prepare for moving to Japan. After 2+ years of teaching in iTalki, I'm very confident to serve various types of students. My students range from absolute beginners to JLPT N1 level, from 10 years old to adults, from different cultural background, from students to scientists, engineers, teachers, and artists.

My lessons are completely tailored with your needs. In the first lesson, I take time to understand your current level and goals. I'll set up a Google Doc or equivalent, and in each lesson, I'll give you homework and discuss what we'll do in the next lesson. Setting right expectation is very important to me. You're more than welcomed to stop me at any point of lessons for questions. Also, bring any questions about Japanese languages and culture.

Kanako has been an excellent teacher and continues to provide a valuable experience every lesson. Every lesson she takes the time to properly listen to any questions/concerns and difficulties you're facing and answers them in clear answers with explanations and examples. I'm glad I've chosen her to help in my studies as she's extremely knowledgeable of grammar and how to properly convey things with the language.

Today we covered asking for directions using a map, and how to conjugate verbs into potential form. It was an excellent lesson. Kanako is very knowledgeable, and is a very supportive and helpful teacher. She is great about explaining things to me, and also making things fun. ありがとうございます！

Great lesson. Kanako covered some important foundational knowledge i had been struggling with and made things so much clearer. I feel i have a better grasp of sentence structure after todays lesson. Thank you Kanako Sensei!
