Hello Everybody, I am Sumru, and a native Turkish speaker from Istanbul. I graduated from Translation Studies in 2014 and speak English and Spanish. I lived in Madrid for half a year and in different parts of Australia for a year. The reason I chose Translation Studies is that I have a great interest in languages, including etymology, linguistics, phonetics and cultural aspects of them and I love not only learning about them, but also teaching them.

I gave face-to-face Turkish lessons, but since Corona, I have been doing the lessons online. I have taught on other online platforms. Now I am on iTalki, too! Becoming a professional translator requires a better command of your native language than your second language, so the Turkish I will be teaching will be more comprehensive than that of a native who hasn't studied languages. Learning a language isn't an easy process, but having to learning it from a source or tutor with inadequate English to explain what you need to know is an even more unpleasant experience. I offer individual lessons for students, based on their goals, needs, language levels, and some other factors.

내 강의 및 지도 스타일

I give conversational and grammatical lessons to adults of all levels. I create a Google Classroom for each student and upload every material we cover during lessons so that students have access to the materials 24/7. I usually follow a book, and use additional materials to support. I care for what each student's needs, and tailor the lessons accordingly. For example, if you feel like one subject is not very easy, we don't move on until you feel comfortable about it.

Lots of grammar today and some new words. We are moving forward slowly but its due to my old brain fighting back :) Sumru is very patient and kind and i enjoy her teaching very much :)

I had a great lesson with Sumru. Even though she is a community teacher on iTalki, thanks to her teaching background, she is more than just a native that you hold conversations. She corrects you but also explains why. Her English is really good so I had no problem communicating at all. I had some experience with Turkish tutors before but I definitely see the difference now. I feel lucky to have find her. Highly recommended

Very good and understanding tutor. I have some basic knowledge of Turkish and it is important for me to practice spoken language and Sumru gives you time to reconsider what you are going to say. I felt no pressure, moreover, she is very good at English and can help you with a translation right away, so you don't waste time translating a word in case you forgot one. I would deffinitely recommend taking a trial-lesson, you won't be dissapointed
