私はニューヨークで育ち、最初にイディッシュ語を学んだのは、英語を話せないイスラエルの祖父母と話すためだった。イディッシュ語を専門に学ぶ前は、古英語、古ノルド語、ラテン語などのゲルマン言語学も学びました。YIVO言語サークルと標準イディッシュ語の発展に関する論文で、2019年にユダヤ神学校から博士号を取得しました。イディッシュ語を本当に学んだのは、最後の世俗イディッシュ語新聞である『フォルヴァーツ』で働いた数年間です。前編集長のボリス・サンドラーは素晴らしい先生でした。ブルックリンのボロ・パークのハシディック地区に2年間住んでいたこともあり、ハシディック・イディッシュ語にも精通している。

I enjoyed my first lesson with Leyzer. I had very specific questions and he was patient and explained things well. His knowledge of various Yiddish dialects is impressive. It was also very helpful to understand certain cultural aspects of Yiddish. A groysem shkoyach, Leyzer!
