Hello everyone! I'm Melissa. I'm a little late to join italki but I'm finally here and am so thrilled. There's a little part of me from all over the world but for the sake of time, let's say that I am from New York City. I've been to 40 countries. I'm all about culture, travel, languages and connecting with others. Having lived in Spain and traveled extensively to different non-English speaking places, I've had to push myself to communicate and connect with locals in order to make the most of my experiences. In addition to English, I speak French and Spanish and am currently learning Portuguese.

Che tipo di insegnante sono

I know what it's like to learn a foreign language-- from the exciting feeling when words are clicking to the not so exciting feeling when you may feel frustrated. I've been in your shoes so I can definitely relate. Over the last ten years, I've taught in formal and informal settings and have helped students of different ages and levels achieve their goals. During my time in Spain, I taught English in an elementary school and worked as a tutor. I also had a LOT of language exchanges with adults that was beneficial for both parties. I've been teaching elementary school aged kids at an IB school for the past 4 years. I am patient, likable, and strict--the perfect recipe for a great teacher.

For English learners with a fair or intermediate level, I believe that conversing is the most effective way to improve your skills so I am open to having a discussion on your interests and topics of your choice, whether that is sports, travel, politics, fashion, and so on. If you prefer a more rigid and structured program, I am also happy to incorporate it into your class. With me, you'll feel so relaxed and comfortable that you won't even feel like you're in a class. Whatever your goals, I will prepare lessons that will support them and help you achieve them with confidence, fluency, and ease.
