Although I have never formally trained in teaching language, I have voluntarily taught Japanese for many years. I’ve attended to language exchange lessons in Toronto and New York and taught Japanese to people from all over the world (e.g. American, Canadian, Russian, Polish, German, Chinese, Korean, Indian etc.) from very beginners to fluent people. I made close friends who learn Japanese and we always asked and taught each other when I was studying English. One of my best friends is an American and he still asks me about the Japanese language even after he moved to Japan.

I have been teaching English in Korea and the UK for nearly 10 years now. In Korea, I worked at private language institutions such as Wall Street Institute and Direct English where I taught students of various ages and careers. In the UK, I briefly taught in the summer programme at Bristol Language Centre, but I've mainly worked at the University of Bath where I am currently based. I am now working as an educational researcher, but still occasionally teaching students on academic skills. I am also a CELTA qualified teacher with a Master’s in TESOL and PhD in Education.

9th January 2020, I will not be teaching after the end of February 2020. I got a diploma in TESOL in 2007 and I taught at language centers and provide one to one tuition to Korean students for many years. I have been teaching on italki since Sep 27, 2013. So far, I have done more than 2500 lessons. I just love meeting new people and helping them gain more confidence in speaking English. I love speaking about a wide range of topics.

In the first lesson we will talk about the reason you are taking lessons and what you want to learn from the class. From there I can work out what we need to focus on and what you want to improve and achieve. I can provide home work and constructive feedback. Each lesson will be tailored specifically to your needs.

As a teacher I always try to create a fun and safe environment where you can feel confident enough to learn. I like to get to know my students so I can use different strategies for you to learn. I have the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) certification from the University of Cambridge and I have experience working with kids, teens and adults.

I am also a student who is passionate about learning languages. Learning another language is not easy and a lot of hard work but I hope to make the process a little easier for my students. I want to help you learn and help you achieve your language learning goals.

I've been teaching English for 20 years, either 'General English' classes or exam preparation classes, e.g. IELTS, FCE, CAE, TOEFL. I can help you improve any aspect of English, whether it's vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, speaking or pronunciation. I've also taught 'Business English' and 'Medical English'. Along with improving your skills, we can also increase your confidence and effectiveness when communicating in English. I also have a lot of experience in helping students improve their presentation skills. whether it's for work, university or school. In our first lesson, we can assess your level of English, discuss your goals and ambitions, then agree on a plan.

After 3,000+ lessons with 1,500+ students of all ages, and after studying other languages myself, I've learned what language students need, what gives them trouble, and what keeps them motivated. The best way to learn a new language is to practice speaking as much as possible, and I will help you do that, without being afraid of making mistakes. I will also help you learn how to avoid translating to or from your first language, and how to understand native speakers, who often speak quickly and connect their words together.

I am willing to work hard to help you if you are also working hard. I will correct you when you make mistakes and write them in a PDF or DOC file for you to keep. I will also tell you the most natural way to say things. As a language learner, I believe the most important thing is to have self-discipline. I study my target language diligently for at least 2-3 hours a day and the rest of the time, I am consuming entertainment in my target language. I don't expect my students to do exactly what I do, I just expect you to study at least a little bit on your own and use what you learned in your lessons with me.

I have been conversing with English language learners at my school both as volunteer and as a part time job for about a year now. I feel like I would be able to help you with continuing the conversation, pronunciation(I know a bit about how the mouth should look when making a certain sound in English and the process of learning a foreign sound since I took a Linguistics class and I understand how to add sounds to your language arsenal ^.^), and fixing your grammar mistakes. All in all, I am here to try my best in furthering your conversational fluency. Whether you have a certain topic you want to talk about, or just want to have a random conversation, I am here.

I have been teaching English for 5 years, starting by tutoring my classmates and helping them pass their International Cambridge Exams. I recently acquired a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate, which gave me the tools and skills to help my students learn English in an efficient way. Even though I speak English fluently, I sat for three Cambridge exams, passing them all with A. I am a native Lebanese speaker, so besides Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha), I also teach the Levantine dialects (Aamiye).
