I speak English, Spanish, Afrikaans and Xhosa, and underwent training in received British pronunciation. I have been living in South Africa for the last few years, in the morning we often see a troop of baboons passing by. I like walking my dogs, keeping abreast of current affairs, exploring cultures, cuisines, landscapes and meeting people, hence my interest in sociology and teaching English xox.

Although I've been using three languages since I was a kid, I didn't realize how difficult it is to learn a language until I decided to start learning Spanish as an adult. Learning a language as an adult made me a better teacher, someone who can truly understand my students' challenges and frustrations. I'm always learning new ways to teach, tweaking my strategies to best meet the unique needs of each learner. I understand language acquisition is a life-long process, and I always make sure to make each lesson count.

I like to tailor the lesson to the needs and interests of the student. I like to use texts and videos that are available online and then share them with the student via screen sharing.

As a learner of a language and as a teacher of English, I understand some of the struggles and successes of learning a new language. I think speaking is an important part of learning a new language so I’m excited to speak with you! Seeing my students improve and be able to communicate in a new language is exciting for me and for them. Sharing language knowledge and seeing a student progress forward is one of my main motivations as a teacher.

I have a conversational teaching style, and we can talk about a variety of topics. However, if you want grammar-based lessons, this is also fine as I possess TEFL certification and the ability to teach grammar.

I first started teaching English to Colombian refugees that came to New Zealand in 2008. This was really the beginning of my love for languages and teaching English. I then began helping migrants coming to New Zealand, helping them to obtain fluency and confidence in English. As a teacher I excel because I help my students to feel confident and supported, and able to make mistakes without fear of judgement. I am patient with my students, and I always try to find their interests and encourage them to speak freely and uninhibited about topics they love.

My favourite part of teaching is getting to know my students are learning about their cultures. I am also happy when I see my students having fun while learning. I am a professional English teacher with over 5 years teaching English to students from Beginner levels to Advanced. I have experience teaching students of various nationalities, ages and levels. My English accent is neutral and very easy to understand. I have completed a Level 7 Diploma in TESOL, which expanded my knowledge of teaching and improved my teaching techniques.

My best quality as a teacher is the ability to recognise the individuals needs and plan my classes accordingly. I adapt my lessons to the needs and interests of my learners while making my classes fun and engaging.

I’ve been teaching English for most of my years in Costa Rica since 2002 and enjoy it very much. I’ve taught in schools and private institutions but with children of my own, it works better for me to teach in my home. I love having classes with small groups or individuals because I feel I can give them better attention and therefore they learn much faster and much better.

My goal is to help you speak English with confidence by improving your fluency. All classes are tailored to your specific needs, time, and interest. I use the Communicative Approach which is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. Hence, classes focus primarily on conversational English. In this approach, the objective is to present a topic in context to the learner as natural as possible as this is a highly effective way to help the language acquisition process. However, a grammatical syllabus forms the foundation of all lessons I teach and builds a framework to help learners acquire the English language.
