I have been teaching some private courses for about 3 years now. My students range from the age of 6 to the age of 35. I do private courses both online and offline. I do not really treat my students as students. I treat them as my friends. With this, I believe that there is no power distance between us that hopefully can make the students feel less pressured.

Overall, I teach my students based on their Indonesian language skill level. I will help my students with writing, pronunciation, Indonesian colloquial, and grammar. I've been living in Jakarta for many years, therefore, I can also help my students to learn Jakartan slang. I can also explain how Indonesian grammar works in English in great detail. I understand very well how both languages work, so I think it would be really beneficial for my students.

I am a teacher of English and Maths and worked as a college teacher abroad in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. These days as a freelancer I focus on English mainly teaching not only students, but also business professionals and by preparing targeting tasks we can make a visible progress. I am familiar with international exams requirements for study or work abroad and I can suggest some good strategies based on a particular candidate language level to achieve a required score.

I think the most important quality as a teacher is the ability to encourage learners. Learning a language is not always easy and there are ups and downs. And it requires quite a bit of efforts and dedication. I believe that a good teacher makes learning more pleasant even when learners bump into obstacles, and makes them feel comfortable and relaxed so that they can speak without feeling nervous. So I try to be a good listener. I also try to make each class fun and helpful with lots of preparation.

I've been told I am patient and supportive as a teacher. I really love meeting new people, learning about their story and passions and being able to help them be better communicators gives me a lot of satisfaction.

On italki, I've taught students from ages 2 to 60, I taught beginners, intermediate, and highly advanced students. I've taught skills, grammar, and vocabulary lessons as well as specialized lessons like Business English, Travel English, English Literature and test preparation (IELTS, FCE, TOEFL). Outside of italki, I've taught beginner English speakers and tutoring intermediate English students. During my stay in Chile I helped teach students, ages 5-7, in the English as a Second Language program in my school as a volunteer. I also helped prepare young students, ages 10-18, for the First Certificate in English (FCE) after school.

I like to adapt my teaching style to the student. However, in general I prefer to maximise the student talking time, and to focus on fluency and relevant vocabulary. I encourage the student to develop their confidence and real-life exposure to the language, so they begin to think in English, and can finally express complex ideas in English without translating from their native language. While I am happy to explain grammar, I see grammar as merely one tool; provided the student has an A2 or higher grammatical level, fluency is arguably more important.

As a teacher I am: Patient - I am always happy to have the same conversation again and again until it feels comfortable for you Creative - How many times can we talk about 'what you did today?' Let's learn new vocabulary! Let's pretend we're at a restaurant or at a job interview or mountain climbing! Organised - If we learn new words today, I will find a way to bring them into conversation tomorrow! I am always keeping notes on your progress. Encouraging - I will always push you! If you're comfortable using the word 'tired' let's try using 'exhausted' or maybe an expression like 'burnt-out' or even current slang like 'dead!' Flexible - If you need something different, you can ask! :)

I see the ideal teaching session as a conversation. I make sure all my students know they are in an environment where they can practice their English and improve it without fear of being judged. I teach by example, and will spend the first session getting to know you so I know what makes you thrive as an English or German learner.

I can teach both English and Hindi and have tutored many students, family members, friends etc. Although English seems a bit tough and complicated at first, however, I believe that with proper guidance and regular learning one can learn it with ease.

I like teaching because I like helping others, and it is very satisfying to see a person's improvement when learning a language. It is also a job that allows me to travel and see the linguistic difficulties and concerns that each learner has towards a language. As I said, I spent two awesome years working in China (still thinking of going back some day!) and I am currently teaching Spanish in Poland. Learning a new language not only requires patience, but also the ability to keep oneself motivated and that's why I'll always encourage you to find new ways to relate to the language you're learning. That can simply be done by watching, for example a YouTube channel on a topic you like and sharing it in class. Searching for content in a different language can be tricky since most times you'll see yourself struggling to find the perfect balance between those that meet your language level and the topics you're interested in at the same time, so here's where I'll help the most.
