I am in love with languages and I myself have been a language student, so I can say I am close to you! I perfectly master my native language and moreover I have published 4 novels and a lot of articles: so I adore to teach Italian to passionated people or to whom wants to get to know the culture of my country. I have been teaching students from different nationalities on 2 continents, so I know different methods of teaching.

My studies and the work experiences have allowed me to have a cross-disciplinary approach to knowledge and to increase my teaching skills, being able to create a deep connection between me and my students. In my activities I explore, build and applicate the most innovative strategies and tools, from a global, fresh and dynamic perspective.

My name is Valeria and I am a professional Italian Teacher. I hold a Ph.D in Chinese Studies, M.A in Comparative Studies and I have 6 years of teaching experience at Chinese Universities as well as one to one tutoring in the UK. I have specialised in teaching to Chinese speakers who wish to study in Italy, to European professionals who work for Italian companies, and to retirees passionate about culture and travels. I have a solid knowledge of teaching methodologies that I developed through my experience as a lecturer in China and in the UK. I learnt how to design new courses according to students’ feedback while making sure that they are clear and comprehensive.

I've been working as a language teacher since 2014. I've been teaching to students of almost all ages and educational degrees, from secondary school to university, and in language schools both in Italy and Spain. I adopt a communicative approach, without dismissing the importance of focusing on specific aspects of the language when needed. I love to transmit not only the language, but also the cultures of Italy and Spain. For this reason I love to use movies, musics and so on during the classes, and I hope that our lessons will give you a taste of these countries. And that you will learn more than just a new language.

I have been teaching Italian for three years to students of all ages. Since May 2019 I am also a CELI examiner so I can help you in preparing a certification exam (not only CELI but also CILS and PLIDA).

I have taught for many years Italian in secondary schools and I have experience of teaching to groups of foreign students (both teenagers and adults). Trough all theese activities I have organized the course material that includes various topics and is divided into different levels of difficulty.

I care about my students feelings and moods as I understand how difficult learning a new language can be. For this reason, my goal is to make the learning process stimulating and funny. I'm committed to motivating my student in every class through engaging activities and stimulating materials.

I'm a certified teacher and I keep studying and improving my knowledge and abilities in order to do the best as possible for my students. I consider myself as a helpful, patient, resourceful, and caring person. I teach Italian in other platforms too, such as Preply and AmazingTalker. Most of my students are beginners and Spanish-speakers, but I have students of higher level too and from other countries of Europe and Asia. So, I love to face new situations and improve my experience. At the moment I teach to adults only.

I am very well organised and I am adaptable, I've always enjoyed working with various types of students with different motivations for learning: I centre my work on the needs and abilities of the students, my approach and methods adapt from time to time to the learning style and needs of the student, that's why the trial lesson is so important: to know each other and to plan the whole course. I always try to have fun during my lessons, because if I'm bored, the students are bored too. So I always propose new, interactive and attractive materials, I love using videos, songs, newspaper articles and multimedia applications for language learning.

Sono una docente qualificata di italiano come lingua straniera, ho molte esperienze in giro per il mondo con grandi e piccoli. Ho una laurea triennale in Mediazione Linguistica e Culturale, con lo studio di inglese e spagnolo, successivamente ho scelto di specializzarmi in Didattica dell'Italiano a Stranieri e ho ottenuto la certificazione Ditals. Tramite la mia università, Università per Stranieri di Siena, ho avuto l'opportunità di fare esperienze lavorative all'estero: a Boston in una middle school, a Londra con adulti dipendenti della banche HSBCe SwISS bank, a Città del Guatemala e a Buenos Aires presso gli Istituti Italiani di Cultura, in Turchia e a Melbourne.

Personally, I believe in the effectiveness of informal learning, which is why I mainly focus on colloquial speech, common expressions, idioms, trying to establish a relationship as equal as possible to learn from each other through the process of knowledge. I like to listen just as I have no trouble telling and sharing my personal ideas and experiences. I am precise and I pay close attention to the individual training needs of the learner, committing myself to preparing material adapted to his needs from time to time.

As a language learner, I know from experience that speaking is necessary to learn quickly and effectively. Most classes fall into the trap of using the same, highly ineffective, traditional teaching methods. Too much lecturing and theory leave students bored and tired. I have found a way to help my students to learn faster, and retain more information easily and quickly. My approach is based on a few fundamentals: listen and repeat, pronunciation, active thinking, spaced repetition. I believe in a flexible approach to language learning.
